Hey there!  We found these little buggers in my yard, my dad brought them to my house and we put them into a large aquarium.  What kind of turtle are they?

Also, when we first got them they were all the size of say...a fifty cent piece..now 2 of them have almost doubled but one of them hasn't grown very much.

Should I be concerned about the little one?  Hes just as lively as the others, maybe even more so..he even "plays" with me, chases my finger and will eat from my hand, needless to say, hes my favorite!

I put little dots on them to tell them apart, will that hurt them?

I ask all this because I want to take the best care of them! Were installing a pond soon in the back yard (its fenced in) and I plan to move them out there when they're big enough!

Theyre in a bowl to compare size, thats also why there is a quarter in there!

And mi favorite!

They are kinda blurry but from what I can tell they are some type of Slider.

Current Collection
1.0 Rhacodactylus Ciliatus (Atua)
R.I.P.
Rhacodactylus Ciliatus (Bottecelli)
Aphonopelma eutylenum(Grape)

Those are definitely painted turtles.  They are similar to sliders, cooters, etc.  As for the one being smaller, it is fine there is always variation between animals, even in the same species.  As long as the little one is active, eats, and has a hard shell he will probably be fine.

0.1.0 Eublepharis macularias
0.1.0 Rhacodactylus ciliatus
1.0.0 Cricetulus grisues
2.0.0 Betta splendens

Coming soon!
1.0.0 Riopa fernandi / 0.1.0 Uromastyx maliensis (January 11)

Yeah this is your second vote on "Painted turtle".  You can pretty much bank on that.  I've had em for years.  My big Momma is 13 inches long the shell alone!  Definately the biggest one I've seen.  They should get to that size in 4-6 years.  Take care of those little teenage mutants!

Bite that!

As to if you should be concern with the littlest one, I would say to watch him, but not be really concerned. Sounds like he is active and eating. Is his shell firm/hard? Turtles are just like any other animal, some grow slow and then do mega growth spurts, some never grow as big as normal, ect.., Everybody is just a little different and has to live up to their own potentials.

Just be sure to be giving them a varied and balanced diet, as much sunshine as safely possible, inside UV/basking sites, and a roomy enough tank with clean water in it.
