| At the Tampa, Florida Herp Show this past weekend, one vendor had a dozen or more of what he was calling 'Giant Chinese green snakes' on his tables. I hadn't seen these before, but have tentatively keyed them out as Cyclophiops major from China. They look like overgrown smooth green snakes from the U.S. They were a little dinged up, but generally looked healthy. Since I'd never seen them before, I'm guessing they're something new that's being tapped for the imported herp trade. Has anyone here worked with any of these to determine what they eat? It'd be easy to assume they take the same things --- mainly insects --- that American green snakes prefer, but I'm interested in proven things someone has observed them eat.

I never seen or herd of thim before so I won't be able to help you there.It's a preaty looking snake though.

| Okay, that looks EXACTLY like the snake I just bought at PETCO 2 weeks ago... Markings on the head, everything. I believe mine is a "rough green snake" and they like to eat crickets, worms, etc. Because they are so small they don't eat mice/rats. the food should not be wider than 1/2 the width of they're body so mine gets pinhead crickets... They get a blue tinge to them when they're 'excited' or stressed. The head marking is there all the time though... Hmmph! Interesting that this guy was calling them "Chinese." The live in North America...? Sounds like a selling scheme to me! Oh, and I paid 24.99 for mine in case anyone was wondering. They get about 3 feet long and stay very slim. Just a little bit of a thing.

| Well...... it's green, that's a good thing!! I love green snakes!! Seriously, there are still many species being discovered and it's so much fun to see new species, I don't recall ever seeing any quite like it either but I don't get around THAT much. I've seen a few pics from the FL show, looks like it was really nice with a lot of fun things to see!! Thanks for sharing, great pic!!

I just got one of these snakes. he's awesome. I've heard they like to eat night crawlers and other insects, but the worms are their faves. once he eats for me i'll let you know
