I went in my room at like 6:40 AM to do the usual dumping and refilling my GTF water dish, and today all the water was gone, which is different because usualy id don't soak up all the water. He must of been hanging out there most of the night because he pooped in there. Then I noticed there were little bugs, I don't think they were mites because they were not red. I flushed them all of them out with water. My only thought what it might be is some sort of other bug because I had some wild moss in there and there might of been eggs in the dirt, so I threw all the moss away. Anybody know about these bugs, and are they really mites???

They may be dirt mites. If so, they are harmless to the reptiles.

| There are red mites that usually feed off the lizards, but there are black mites that feed off snakes. Both can be harmful or even deadly if not treated. What kind of herp is it? The best mite product I have found (personal opinion) is Reptile Relief Spray by Nature's Chemistry (they also make sprays & shampoos for dog/puppy & cat/kitten). You can use the spray on all the cage furnishings (except food/water dishes-best to send those through the dishwasher) and bedding and the herp (as long as it is not an amphibian). Sorry about that, GTF stands for Green Tree Frog. There not there anymore, if I find some more then I will post it.

Well they apparently didn't do much harm-though I would thouroughly check over your aquariums inhabitants. Just make sure to keep an eye open for more.

| Are they black, cause a friend of mine got these black mites and they were very bad for the snake. Its like a bunch of ticks on you if thats a good way to visualize it.

I think they are just dirt mites.But I would chick the frog throughoutly along with the cage.
