bought this guy at a reptile show but i have caught them before as well in ponds in florida and georgia .

I thought i was the only one that tried to catch those guys down there. my uncle has a house in marathon key and they are everywhere. but i cant say i have been bitten yet....knock on wood lol. its really fun to catch them. if you like catching them, you should go to Louisiana and find a littile pond by a golf course and at night try to catch the alligators that go roamimg around. now thats fun!!! lol

Speaking of bites....some of you may remember several months ago my boyfriend was bitten when we were trying to detangle our iggy from his leash. He was alligator-rolling, and my boyfriend sat on him to hold him down, but the iggy whirled around and chomp! Here's a couple pics of the bite. I don't recomend catching wild ones, seeing as they are quite more aggressive. If you decide to though, wear some thick leather gloves, like they use for raptors (birds of prey-not dinos).

^See the serrated edge? Even though they are vegitarians, they gotta crunch up their carrots and rabbit-food somehow.

^A whole 1" by 3/4" chunk of loose skin. It was around 1/4" deep.

ummmm..... i wouldn't recommend trying to catch Greenies.... at all (unless autherized to do so by a professional). Adult males are very territorial, and if people have been feeding the wild iggys than they will have nothing to fear from you. you are just a food source to them (im not saying an iggy wil want to eat you either, but they will check you for food).
since you have an iguana you should know that they have razor sharp serated teeth! they can take a large chunk of skin out of your body, and they move really fast! and a large male or even a female iggy can lash you with their tail, which really hurts.

if you think about it, if you where an iguana, and you are basking and all of the sudden a large pink ape has creped up on you and you are disterbed. you run off but that is no good! then the creature grabs you and your very scared. the thing holding you looks at you with amazment, and takes you to the others! now your so scared you could die of stress. the thing finally lets you loose after touching you and you run off. you are now so preocupied with trying to keep away from them that you forget to eat. later you die from starvation. only if they stayed away.... you could have still been alive.

this is really what can happen (im not saying it could happen every time, but you get the point). so please leave the iggys alone in their natural state. you could easily cause harm to them as they can to you! pics are ok though at a large distance away.

Well, there are alot of very strong and important points you need to be sure you include when looking for these herps in the feild. Always remeber that these animals can be nervous and dangerous. Large specimens like adult males can and will whip beat you with there tails. And they will also bite. And i know it will draw blood. Since i have been bitten by my iguana before. Also, they can be hard to sneak up on and you need to run like heck to chase them down. If you see one on ground and not in the trees, attempt to subdue it by chaseing it down and pin it to the ground. Then get something like your shirt to cover the head to calm it down. Make sure that you stick the tail between your legs too control the tail. Also, make sure that you have control of the head and legs. If you happen to see one in the trees, then you may have too climb up after it. Which i dont recomend. Since you are in its element. If you attemt to climb after it, it may jump from its perch. Wich gives you the chance too chase it down. And yet you may need to climb up after it. Since sometimes they just climb higher and higher.

That is only a small portion of exactly how to catch a green iguana in the wild. I would say more but it is midnight and i am tired. Its up too you now.

2 weeks ago i went to the florida keys , to my surprise there were baby iguanas everywhere. it was fun trying to catch these little guys,anyone else ever try to catch them? also i saw a wierd lizard down there as well,it looked like a large fence lizard but the wierd thing about it was that when it ran away it lifted its tail like a scorpion and ran off into a burrow.anybody know what this mystery herp is ? sorry couldnt get pics.
