Me: 16yr Active Navy. Relatively new to herps (4yrs or so).
Wife: Lifetime of animal....everything. She's worked for a large reptile breeder, as a zookeeper in a private zoo and currently as a Vet Tech for an exotics Doc.

Currently working on building a set-up for Hermie so he can meet a few new girls. Just can't decide how I want to do it. One 48"T x 24"W x 24L, one 18"T x 18"W x 48"L and a 29G Tall....so many options I need to get off my butt and pick one. I'm just artistically challenged so my custom building skills are limited. Anyone know a custom urethane background maker? I've got pics of exactly what I want.

just came across your forum looking for rep info. I have a few corns, milks, kings, balls, beardies, tokays, leos, savs, nile, golden geckos, russian and leopard tort, uro, collard, tegu, fire skinks, schnieder skinks, sandfish, to name a few, along with chinchillas, ferrets, degus, ST oppussums, sugar gliders, 3 siamese cats, 4 dobes- white "riddick", blue "keegan" red "parker" & B&T "siris, a gr. dane, pit bull and chihuahua- just a few of my guys. I have only been in reps for a few yrs, I was deathly afraid before and now find myself l@@king for them at our ranch and freak out ppl when they open my freezer LOL looks like a fun and imformative place. glad I found it!

I am happy to be a member of a forum with so many "aficionados" who share my love of reptiles. I have kept and bred Red Ear Sliders for about 30 years. Over the years, I have provided rehab for a variety of injured turtles like Wood Turtles (Glyptemys insculpta), Eastern Box Turtles (Terrapene carolina), Common Snapper (Chelydra serpentina) and even went on scuba in a lake to rescue a huge Red Ear Slider who was trapped by fishing line and not in a very good mood! My favorite experience was helping with the rehab and release of a Logger Head Turtle (Caretta caretta). I look forward to sharing and learning with you.

New user and new 1st time snake owner

Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I just bought my first snake, well actually 2 about 3 months ago. A boy and a girl ball python(if the guy I bought them off craigs list knew what he was talking about). I came here last nite looking for info on how to get rid of mites, and saw so much info here.. it was very helpful. I tried the soaking them in soapy water, and then dealt with my first escapee. I was terribly upset.. but then I did a search on the internet to see if a snake would go down a toilet. Found one guy that said his did and came back up the bathtub drain. So me and my fiance proceeded to tear the bathroom apart (after thoroughly searching cabinets and EVERYTHING in the bedroom. We lost him at about 3 or so this afternoon. He decided to grace us with his presence tonite at about 9:45. I was alerted by my cat Punkin who hissed. Thank goodness he is ok.. still finding a few mites in the temp tank I have them on. Putting in white papertowels in the bottom of the tank was an awesome tip, as I can see the lil buggers now

Hey everyone, im new to Reptile Channel. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Rob and i have a pair of anerythristic corn snakes, a male San Diego gopher snake, a female Sonora gopher snake, a Kenyan sand boa, a water dragon, some firebelly newts, and two chicken turtles that i hatched from eggs, a raccoon dug up the nest, and destroyed most of the eggs except for 4. I incubated them, and i got 2 to hatch. I am really into poison dart frogs, i have kept them before but didnt get to breed them which i am now going to get into. Im also thinking about maybe trying to breed the gopher snakes. In my opinion, i think the gophers are the most beautiful of the north american species of snake. I look forward to meeting yous guys and learning new and interesting info, and hopefully giving out some good info

im back on and in full gear showing my love and passion for all reptiles. since that ban hasnt passed yet im willing to take in and help relocate loving herps to others that have the same passion as i do and that can care for them like i can. reptiles are uniqe and wonderful once people learn and understand them and can make great family pets if you take the time and learn bout the species you want. ive had many experiences with my herps and i love them!!!!!!!! if you want one learn and educate yourself about them. im always learning i cant get enough!!!!!

Cascade Reptile Rescue and Rehabilitation

Hi all herp heads! My name is Jamie. I am founder of Cascade Reptiles. I started the rescue in 2005 with an emaciated Iguana named Darwin. She came to me neglected and starved nearly to death. She had advanced stage Hyperparathyriod disease. It took 1 month of gentle syringe feeding Ensure and fruit/veggie baby food for her to even be able to move around her tank. Had I known at the time just how truly fragile her bones were I would have feared touching her.

Since then Cascade Reptile Rescue's population has grown to 38 reptiles. With only one gratifying, successful adoption to speak of. I require a lot of potential reptile parents. I have declined 8 people who wanted to adopt. Discouraged countless others from wanting a 5 foot, nasty tempered, male iguana.

I do not ask questions of people who bring the reptiles to me. Sadly, the reptile speaks for itself. Most are cases of neglect and misunderstanding. Some are cases of true physical abuse, some have stories out of a terrible horror movie.

Any that come to me have a guaranteed home, meal and appropriate habitat. They have my respect and understanding and if they don't want to be "pets" I don't ask them to be. Some go into class rooms where I can tell kids the animal's story. Where the "educational animals" can be the voice for reptiles everywhere.

I just want to care for them the way I would want to be cared for if I was in their skin.

I am located in Southern Oregon. I am not yet A legal non-profit, but I am working on it.

I am new to the channel and I just wanted to introduce myself.

I so far have only two herps, Stitch and China. Both are ball pythons. I am going into herpetology/wildlife biology when I head off into college. I am hopefully going to have more herps sometime soon. My goal is a green iguana. Then a burmese python, then I am going to need to move out. My parents won't let me have anything venomous until I move out.

Getting Back into Reptiles

Hey guys. New to the forums. Just read about it yesterday in the Reptiles Magazine I picked up at the local pet store. I haven't owned any reptiles for over 2 years. I found out I was going to be a dad and decided it would be more responsible to find new homes for my collection. I had 2 6 foot red tail boas, a juvenile 2 foot red tail, a young 3 foot retic who was a rescue, and a 4 foot Savannah Monitor. I knew i wouldn't have time for everything and a new baby. Things are finally settling down for me and my son is now 14 months old, and I'm thinking of getting back into the hobby but want to start small. Was thinking of maybe a crested gecko or one of the very attractive hognose morphs I have been seeing lately. Any suggestions or advice would be welcome. I'm glad to be here. I am really enjoying all the information available through this site. Thanks a bunch.

Hi! i Was wondering how much i should feed my beardie a day? She is 6 months old and i just bought her 9/13. Also, what must i do to tame her?
i picked her up and she tried to jump from my hands! When i went to buy her, she was completely calm! If you could explain that it would be great. Lastly, i was wondering if my tank was big enough? I gave her everything she needs, but she seems more interested in getting out than exploring her cage. She keeps slamming into the glass trying to get out and i'm afraid she'll get hurt. Just Introducing Myself

I had a subscription to Reptile Magazine for 3-4 years about 15 years ago, while I was keeping a wide variety of snakes. I was away from the hobby for about 10 years, but have recently renewed my passion. I'm concentrating on King and Milk Snakes at this point. In addition to keeping the snakes (I haven't made any decisions about breeding?), I also like to learn as much about them as I can. My curiosity extends to all types of reptiles, which is why I enjoy the Magazine and this Website so much.

I live in Central Indiana and have joined my local Herp Society. I attend reptile shows when I can and am considering attending the Midwest Herp Symposium, in Chicago (Oct. 9-11).

I enjoy browsing the website, particpating in the contests, blogging, etc.

I guess that's enough of an introduction. Hope to chat with some fellow herpers over time.

My name is Jesse. I'm new to joining this site I have recently discovered how exciting keeping a reptile is. I've looked at all the dates for reptile shows and noticed there are none in MN. Why is this? Are there ever any at all? I want to attend a show but don't want to drive a distance into Wisconsin or Iowa and then have to transport a possible pet a long distance. Any info would be much appreciated.

Hello Everyone,

As my subject says, I'm a new leopard gecko owner (about 3 weeks) and an old Russian tortoise owner (9 years). I also have 4 hermit crabs and a 55 gallon saltwater tank.

I've also owned dogs, hamsters and tropical fish including breeding Cichlids. ( I should probably join Fish Channel txtPost_CommentEmoticon(''); )

I just joined Reptile Channel a few days ago and have been reading the Forums, lots of good information and members. Looking forward to going to the Sacramento Reptile Show at the end of September. I haven't been to it in a few years and I've been told it is much bigger than the last time I attended.

Well, soon! I just added some herp profiles for my critters today. I have a High Orange Brazilian Rainbow boa who is almost two. I'd like a male for her so as I can breed. I also have a High Yellow Saharan/Niger Uromastyx male who needs a female. He's not a year yet. So, it won't be any time soon folks, but any tips etc. would be welcomed!

I thought about getting a few breeding pair of some Red Eyed Tree frogs as well as some Tokay Geckos, perhaps breed some morphs. What do you all think and what has your experience been with the forementioned species?

Hi There! Well lets see I am still very new to the herp enthusiast communiity but am jumping in with both feet. I never imagined the love i would have for lizards. The extent of my love for them was chasing the little blue belly lizards around my family's ranch.

I acquired my first lizard this past Feb. When I brought home a baby ball python as a surprise for my boyfriend for his birthday. His Step-mom's best friend happened to be a long-time bredder and she set me up with a beautiful snake and habitat. As well as a phone number to lend a helping hand. He was very lucky to get a snake. I was very reluctant at the time. Was definetly not a big snake fan. He was extremely thrilled to get his snake we named Diesel. The first time we held him we fell in love and all my fears melted.

As we dabbled further in the world of reptiles I quickly fell in love with many different species. Everytime we walked into a pets store to get something for Diesel of course we walked by the babies they had for sale. I fell in love with the Chinese Water Dragon. For a few months I researched about the car of such tropical lizards and I'm sure drove my boyfriend insane constantly talking about new facts I learned or how cute the looked today at the pet store. Well like a good boyfriend he gave me a baby Chinese Water Dragon we named Romulyn for my birthday this last April.

We treat our lizards like our kids and they constantly amaze us with their cuteness and affection. Originally reptiles would have been on the bottom of my list of affectionate animals, next to sea cucumbers lol. A lot have I learned and I have to admit Im addicted to the reptile world and all the information and speicies it has to offer. I see us as long-time if not life-time reptile enthusiasts.

Update:

i am training cody to crawl on my hand and i can pick him up. he already loves me when i put my hand in his cage he runs out of his cave but doesnt go on my hand he just stares at it he is still nervous!

Hello to everyone out there. I just wanted to take the time to say thanks to the people responsible for setting this up. I have been a herp freak for about 12 years at one time I had as many as 13 enclosures with various types of a bull snake,2 burms ,a red tail boa,five ball pythons,2 leopard geckos, an iguana,2 corn snakes,and a blood python.I currently have an approx. 11 year old ball python named Henry and a 6 month old green iguana named (bear with me) Iggy. Over the years I had to cut my collection down due to space restaints plus i've just lost some due to death.But anyway I alwats thought it would be a cool idea to have a web site like this wear people could view each others animals and share each others thoughts,ideas,tips and expierences on reptiles.

you probably dont see people with a snapping turtle very often.my toad lives with my snapping turtle.check out my pet profiles to learn more about them.i love reptiles.im gona try to get onother one.like a lizard or another turtle.i like watching my toad eat.
