Lost my leopard gecko Strider to a mealworm

It was hard to watch my baby suffer while i couldn't do any thing! after about three days she died. Poor thing she was just getting her spots too.By the way-DON'T EVER FEED A PET A LIVE MEALWORM!!!!!!! IF THE HEAD SURVIVES IT WILL EAT YOUR BABY FROM THE INSIDE OUT, JUST LIKE MY BABY STRIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She died in July, 2011 when my unknowing father fed her a toxic centipede. Do not feed your pets wild caught food unless you know if it is toxic or not, and do not allow anyone but yourself to feed them unless absolutely necessary! May result in death!

Two of my bearded dragon eggs collapsed. My friend and I checked the eggs by going in a room (pitch black) and putting a dim flashlight under the eggs. One was dead one was barely alive and struggling to stay alive. We put the living one back in the incubator and put the collapsing egg in a plastic baggy. I am so sad that egg died he was my favorite because he was so much smaller than the others. I hope the rest make it.

I just recently (about two months ago) lost my leopard gecko, Yamori, to an unknown cause. I'm still new to the reptile hobby, and I'd like any information from more experienced keepers to give me any information to help prevent this in my future reptiles. Here were his symptoms: very weak, pale coloration, sluggish, and these symptoms didn't appear until a few hours before he died. the day before he was his happy self, eating crickets and crawling on the branches in his tank. Any information will help.

I just want to say, thanks, for everyone who had voted my sweet Buster for Reptile Of The Day. He sadly passed away on 3/17/12. He was my first "some-what large" lizard, and I loved him very much. He will be dearly missed, and I hope everyone will miss him too.

Well, my baby motley het opal butter corn died last night unexpectedly I was feeding last night and when I got to her, she wouldn't eat, was sneezing and kept holding her mouth open. Her skin was wrinkled, so figured she was either a little dehydrated or needing to shed, so I put her in some luke warm water (not even enough to cover her back). I went to check on her 15 minutes later and she was crawling around, then I checked on her another 15 minutes later and she was dead I know she didn't drown cause as I said it didn't even come up over her back. She had a swelling a 3rd of the way down from her head, another one in her mid section and another right by the tail, none of which were there before I put her in the water. I put her in the freezer and I'm going to see how much it costs for a necropsy.

My little MBK that I just got on the 2nd just died in my hands about 45 minutes ago I waited the full week and then fed him on Monday. I checked him yesterday and he was (or seemed to be) fine and then tonight I go in there to check on him and he's laying on his back and there a dead smell. It turns out the dead smell is his regurgitated mouse, so I pick him up and he's moving around a little bit with his tongue flickering and then he rolled over and died in my hands

I had a Chinese water dragon not too long ago. I was raising him from a hatchling and i grew very attatched. I had put a nice roomy terrarium together for him and went on vacation shortly after and some kids my roomates were babysitting dumped all his crickets, Calcium/D3, the feeder fishes' food flakes, and anything else they could find in his enclosure. Needless to say, when I got back it was a rotten, stinky mess, and my dragon was terminally ill. No herp vets around my area, so i did anything I could to nurse him back to health, but he died soon after. It was a very sad day.

last weekend, i found my first leopard gecko, aphrodite, passed away, on my birthday she had MBD and vitamin A defficency. she was put down that night. i miss her so bad, and my other geckos have been looking for her.

Well it took me a while to post this but, 3 days after i got my Ghost Stripe corn snake Ginger, at a reptile expo she died because i didn't think about she was 3 weeks old and she dosent need heat and it was extra hot because she was between 2 adult kenyen with heat pads and she had a tiny one herself, and then she started shedding and i tried everything and it would'nt come off because heat wich i didn't think about.....

All my fault, this sucks.

on sunday night my sweet little 5 1/2 year old corn died in my hands.I miss her so much and have burst into tears in school and every thing!I just wanted to say goodbye to my wonderful baby remy!Remy you were an amazing snake and you are such a gift from god!!i hope you here me when i say my prays to you and the lord!I will be there soon sweetie pie!Please stay safe and happy!

I will miss his little toadie butt he was only 8 mnths old.He had a massive prolapse.I was kinda worried about something like this because his deformaties caused his tail to jam up against vent and his swayed back made it worse.He may have had to push to hard to defecate.IDK I could be way wrong but he did have a good life for awhile.

so while im stuck here in the hospital i got the news from my reptile caregiver that my sunglow had passed away. im very sad and seeing as im in the hospital could not get him to the vet to help him or determine what killed him. im very sad that this happened and already miss him more than i already did being away in the hospital, RIP D:

While I was at work my girl was about to feed the turtles and noticed the slider was gone, tragic. She and I searched all over and nothing. It was the most active of the two and the best looking. So now I will have to wait a few wks to replace it with another.
Honestly that still feels like a long time and the other one just hides, what a waste. So now I know I want a RES and a YBS and a good 20 gallon tank to start fresh now that I have been doing a bit of research and youtube vids. So RIP to my lost little buddy and I definitely will do better nxt time. I loved my little hardshell buddy, what a shame.

Today, I would just like to say a few words. Shadow you got sick and tried to let me know you had to go last night. I cried and held onto you tight and begged you not to leave me. I selfishly woke you up everytime you started making your approach to slumberland and beardie heaven. I just want to tell you how much I miss you. I enjoyed our final hours together last night and this morning before I selfishly left to go into town. I had to let grandma bury you because I couldnt accept that you really had gone. But I promise you that after a few days have come and gone and I've been able to take in the fact that your not here, I'll ask grandma where she buried you and come see you. I hope your flying with the angels baby girl!

It's hurting me so much as i'm typing this right now. I'm just barely holding back the tears. I just recentally lost my pacman frog Margo to a poison induced stroke.

See, I live in Las Vegas, we have alot of the big red fire ants here, Over night the ants got in my house and built a small colony in my pacman frog's substrate. They bite her all over and it turned fatal. She died the day before I got paid. Maybe is she could have just held out until I was able to get her to the vet the next day she would have made it, but she slipped away, and I had to watch her suffer. It hurt me so bad, the pain inside is unbarable.

My husband and I lost our first pet as a married couple, a baby rosy boa named Jenna. She was with us only two months before she began showing symptoms of a neurological disease. Last week she was very lethargic, wouldn't eat, couldn't right herself, and kept sleeping belly up. We took her to a reptile vet who said our temps and humidity were perfect and she looked healthy, she just seemed hungry, and to try and feed her. Thursday we attempted to feed her (brained the pinkie)...she struck, coiled, and began corkscrewing her head and shaking. It took her over two hours to eat the pinkie because she was so disoriented. During the night she drank her water bowl clean. Then she threw up the pinkie and started convulsing every hour. This morning she was seizing violently every 5 minutes or so, so we humanely sent her to reptile heaven. It was the hardest thing to do and we miss her VERY much

The first reptile I got was a horny toad, I found at my cousins house. I was 8 or 9 then so... I didnt know he needed calcium powder and heat lamps and stuff, so... he passed away within 3 months or so...

Was about 10 when this happened. I got a bunch of tiger salamanders I found in my aunt's window well. I got a big tank, some dirt from my backyard and all. During winter the dirt froze, and they got trapped, since they burrowed, and froze.

But now I'm older and take EXCELLENT care of my herps.

My horny toads' name was horny.

Salamanders names- spot, tigger, tiger, bud, cheese, and lotso

But all this is is the past now, and I got lots of new horny toads. ( I wanted to make up for the past)

Just wanted to mention this as well, near the end of 2009, I was at a school Christmas concert I was in.

While we were gone,(my dad didn't come)mydad heard cats hissing and screaming and some scratches, he got up and let my cat "Muffin" in her coat and tail was all fluffy(she was a shorthair). The next day, my cat couldn't walk. She was like paralyzed in her hind legs. We took her to the vet, and it was some sort of muscle tear I think.

They gave us steroids enough for 3 days to give her. Wrapped it in butter or meat, and she ate it. It didn't help at all.

That Saturday, my dad shot her in the field. I was in my room with my herps, and didn't, even here the gun shot. I didn't find out until like an hour later. He did it pretty close to the house too.

There's no cat that can replace her. She bit everyone in my family except for me and my dad. I found her on the side of our house, when we lived in town. That's why she was my cat. Her name was Muffin.

I should have know that this was going to happen! I got claudia from a lady that claimed that she was "in good health "and she just didn't have time for her.But when i arrived to pick her up she was in no where near "in good health".she had the a dirty tank, no heat lamp,dirty water,her tail was about the same size of a anoles,she had a large lump under her tail (remember that its important further in the story),she was black and white and ice cold.the funny thing was that about two weeks afterward she was dark orange and black not white.now 4 months have passed and she soon was my favorite and most sweet and calm of all my gecko.BUT that bump i mentioned before has doubled in size and i was starting to get worried.SO i took her to our local pet land where i now there reptile guy and for a bonus his friend was there and he is a reptile vet assistant.and they both even said that she needs to see a vet a.s.a.p.So i had planned to the vet in to or three days.But two days later ON VALINTINES DAY she passed away.

Unfortunately our bearded dragon Taz passed away this past Friday. After rushing him to an emergency vet in the middle of the night and then transporting him to my herp vet the following morning he passed on. It was a very sudden illness which we suspect to be from fatty liver disease from improper nutrition from his previous owners. We had adopted him a year ago today. He was about 7 years old and was the most beautiful and happy boy. He always loved running outside in the sun and sleeping with his daddy. He will be missed dearly. We decided to have his cremated and also made a flipbook for him. Not a day goes by when we aren't thinking of him.

lost one of my two corn snakes a couple days ago he was a rescue of a bit over 5 years ago he was of a unknown age when i got him and had recovered from a URI shortly before i got him and was already a large adult when i got him about 5 years ago, so it may very well have been old age for all i know but he wasn't ill or anything when he passed but he was one of my earliest snakes and will be missed

Hello all, I am new here. and this is my first post.
Unfortunatley it is a sad one.

Yesterday I went to feed all my geckos, and as I got to my southern marbled gecko ( Bazza ), I put the crickets in, refilled his water, and as I went to check on him, I lifted up his brocken mug.... he was dead. Stiff and still. I proded him a few times, and usually he reacts. but this time he did not.

I am assuming he died of old age. afterall, he was 9 years old. pretty impressive since the average lifespan is about 5 years!
He is now buried under a palm tree in my backyard.

My first and oldest herp. I miss him greatley. R.I.P Bazza

i was doing upgrades for my cages..i just cleaned all the reptile cages i had just recently changed the green anole tank around from eco earth substrate to paper towels..now they are greener than green! i also got my leopard gecko new sand and a heat pad.

heres the real story...i was going to do the 50/50 tank set up for the frogs..i bought a filter and made the land part out of styrafoam...yeah way to go Max (me)..i finished it and then i put the land part in and added the water..then i realized, foam floats..so i gots shims to keep it down on the bottom..then i added the frogs...

i didnt make it safeproof either..i rescued my frogs from the crevases of the tank..it was the dumbest idea i ever had..i had to cut a hole in the cage, the gole was just a 1/2 inch across..just big enough to get the cord of the filter through..but i didnt patch up the hole either..the next day i come home from work only to find one frog in the tank..i searched frantically everywhere! i just found him today at 8:15 P.M. Central on the date of 2/4/2010..under my dresser...dead..he was all shriveled up too..

i felt so bad..how could this have happened? why wasnt i there for him? why didnt i find him in time?..i then put his body out by the side of the house and buried him..i put my finger against his body and said, "in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, let my baby rest in peace and to be let into your kingdom."

i just wanted to try new things for my babies (my term for herps). it turned out to be a disaster..has this ever happened to anybody? im sorry people of Reptile Channel, i have failed as a herp keeper.

Static ,my hedgehog, died over night. There have been bad thunderstorms the last two days, all the thunder had caused him to have a stroke. Static was the only rodent-like mammal I have ever kept, wall he had his ups & downs I still enjoyed keeping him.

Hey guys, I just had to euthanize my baby water dragon due to a fractured humerus. The vet said it was because he had a calcium deficiency from before we got him. I only had him for two weeks but those were the greatest two weeks ever. I miss you tiny lizard...

I don't know what else to do as I have no way of knowing for sure, and don't have access to a vet at this hour.

I have a 11 year old Ball Python, named Sweety. She has always been in the best of health and I've never had problems with her except for when she went almost a year without eating a few years ago after a stunned hamster managed to bite her. The hamster wound did not get infected and I took very good care of her. She normally eats about 2 large rats a month (any sooner and she won't eat them, she's got herself on a feeding schedule) and that's never been a problem.

But now I'm having trouble.

A few months ago she broke her heat lamp by knocking it off it's setting and we weren't able to get her a new one because the pet store had closed down. So we tried to implement this by setting up a space heater outside her cage and turning it on so it would heat her tank (we made sure it didn't get too hot for her) until we were able to get her a new one.

She was fine a few hours ago, moving around and flicking her tongue as usual...

But when I came downstairs to the computer room where her huge cage is, I glanced over at her and noticed she was in a rather peculiar position ( it's hard to describe but it wasn't a normal snake position). So I poked her with a snake hook gently to see if she was alive, and she slowly moved a tiny bit. Panicking, I got a stepladder and reached in and picked her up (the cage is up on a stand and the cage itself is about 3 1/2 feet tall) and she wasn't exactly limp, but moved aimlessly, like slow death throes.

Right now I'm holding her and trying to keep her warm in an attempt to revive her metabolism, but I fear it's too late, and that she's dying in my arms as I write this.

She's so cold to the touch ( I found out the other people in the house haven't really been warming her like they said) and I can't tell if she's breathing, other than random ragged breaths I can hear, and she's still moving aimlessly (like she'll move her head forward and then twist up in a wacky position and curl up) she's even randomly flicking her tongue. But her eyes are caved in which makes me think she may already be dead, just in rigor, or death isn't far away. Part of me is hoping she'll pull through but the other part hopes that if she is dying, it will be over soon so she won't suffer anymore.

Can anyone please give me some advice or at least peace of mind?

My anerythristic corn snake, Bubbie, passed away about 3 months ago from old age. We took her in from Craigslist, she was an amazing animal. Rest in peace, girl!
