And what do you plan on breeding in the future? I have been breeding Columbian red tails, Dumeril's boas, blue tongue skinks, crested geckos, and corn snakes. In the past I bred bearded dragons and leopard geckos. I am getting into breeding kingsnakes and milksnakes.

I am just wondering for the animals that you have successfully bred, how did you sell off the young? Personally, I sell most online, and then what ever I have left, I sell to petstores. I just want to see what everyone else is doing.

Cresteds

Do you leave your male in with your females, or remove them after breeding season ? Hopefully someone here will have something to say.

I recently adopted a male leopard gecko (Bell Stripe APTOR) and discovered it has vision problems. The best he seems able to do is sense shadows that pass over his eyes. He has no reaction to feeding tongs being placed very close to his face or his eyes. At times it's very difficult to feed him, he doesn't realize it's a mealworm tapping his chin.

Being an albino, this makes sense. It was silly of me not to have thought of that beforehand. I don't regret adopting him; he's large, healthy, inquisitive, and quite beautiful. I'd like to take the credit for him getting comfortable in his new enclosure so quickly, (with one of my females) but his previous owner kept him in good health. Plus, leopard geckos seem amazingly resilient in general, so maybe the lizard deserves most of the credit.

I have 3 females that I've been keeping for years, going through a slew of problems but figuring out through trial and error the best habitats I could provide for them. One dropped a tail when I temporarily housed them together a year or so ago, but other than that, no serious problems.

I adopted this male with plans to breed him and my females, but this vision problem has me hesitating. Unless I'm mistaken, vision problems seem well known among albino morphs. I realize that this is a pet and not a wild animal, but I feel guilty even considering breeding creatures with a mutation that impairs their vision. My females all have good eyesight. I'm often impressed by how accurately they strike at their prey. They're voracious and formidable little hunters!

Perhaps I'm looking at it from a blatantly human perspective. In the wild the odds are definitely stacked against an albino animal surviving. Yet in his enclosure, I do everything I can to guarantee he thrives. From a survival perspective in captivity, his vision problems really aren't a detriment, I half-grudgingly admit.

I'd like to hear how leopard gecko breeders and animal breeders in general feel about this issue, because I'm assuming it doesn't just apply to leopard geckos but is an effect of albinism many critters experience. However, I've read a bit online that says this type of problem may happen with too much exposure to bright lights; that while vision problems exist this is the extreme end of the spectrum. This is the first albino animal I've ever cared for, so please, I'd love to hear from those of you with more experience.

- Alex
beardee breeding

yesterday september 28 one of my dragons was attaking the other one vilently i was shocked but i notice that one of them had a very dark beard and it hit me that he horny and trying to get it on with the female soo after the first time he totally missed then an hour went bye and he was on her like flies to s*** and he got her in position and it went down so i guess my question is now what? do i have to seperate them or keep them 2gether or just wait or wat?

danx in advance 4 any advise

Small biz grant for breeding and what not

So I'd like to start a biz breeding select herps and selling them online, among other ventures in the herp biz. I applied online for some grants at grantsgov.info and received a call a few days later. The rep told me when all is said and done, I could get up to 200,000 bucks. Yup. Catch is they have to take 375 bucks from my checking acct. for the lawyers fees (its a grant brokerage firm...apparently...) etc. I think it might be a scam, checked out the United Economic Agency (the brokerage firm) via BBB and came up with very little. There hasn't been a (-) report or complaint as of yet. Still, I'm skeptical. Thus, I checked out the Small business association of America's site. It sucked. Wasn't very helpful. Does anyone know if grants even exist for an unemployed vet like myself, looking to start something lucrative? Please advise on what is best... I don't have an incubater - what are the best odds for the eggs to hatch?
So far the only info that I have found is that it takes about 2 months for the eggs to hatch and that female typically stays with the eggs until they hatch and then leaves the hatchlings to fend for themselves...

Thank you,

Jill in Central Florida

Leopard Geckos....

I have a big problem. I purchased a female leo, she's 5.5 months old now. The breeder I purchased her from told me that if I put her in with my 6 month old leo male, they wouldn't mate until they were older. I haven't seen any actually eggs in her tummy, but I don't know if they actually mated or not.

I'm extremely worried about her, and I feel extra retarded for allowing this to happen. Reptile Expo in Daytona Florida, of Tom Keogan with a juvenile and 14 year old adult female Ringed Python. Provides a really great visual reference of what these beautiful snakes look like, that he is selling these days.
-
The plan is to purchase juvenile Ringed Pythons for our local breeder club, at this year's (2009) Expo at Daytona from Tom Keogan. NO ONE these days has such amazing color and contrast in his adult Ringed Pythons as Tom does in his - but, he's been developing this line since 1995..... So, James Severts of Virginia Beach, (Pet Paradise) and myself, are going to be starting this breeders club. But, we are both certainly welcoming any new, interested members to join up with us.
We will be purchasing the snakes in August. James and his brother Josh, will both be travelling to make their annual 'pilgrimage' to Daytona in August to attend the Expo, and they will purchase the baby Ringed Pythons then and return with them to Hampton Roads. The plan is to get our snakes hopefully at a cheaper, Expo price and with definitely, NO SHIPPING payment!
If interested, and you are a local Hampton Roads area, Virginia resident? Respond here, and I'll send you some contact info to work out the details.

breeding fire belly toads

guys, i got a female oriental and my male is all over her and she dragged him through the water a bit and he helped kick and she made some trill sounds

how do i know she is mature enough to mate?

is there a certain temp to keep?

couldn't find much online

CRICKET BREEDING HELP!!!

I have been tring to breed crickets for about a mounth and has had no sucses i was wondering if some people could help me by telling me some tricks and tips please i cant afford to buy crickets for my pets and i need to breed them. thank you so much!

its driving me crazy.

moonglows

im wanting to create some moonglows that are outa this world looking, the color and patterns eventually i would like to try to produce some super moonglows anyone know what genes are needed to create a super moonglow?

breeding tips and suggestions

I just wanted a forum so we all can share info on breeding reptiles,of any species. From anoles to anacondas. If you have information and would like to share it with others post here. thanks all

Boy... I looked and found that Peppermint was a female and Tiger was a male. I know it's really hard but I'll try to breed them. It's crab breeding season and I did some research on breeding land hermit crabs. So I know what kind of tank to put them in and everything. Does anyone have anyone have tips on breeding hermit crabs? Because I know it's unlikely that I can get them to breed.

Nikita: now that you're here, go to page 2.

Spotted Python Breeding Age

When do spotted pythons reach maturity and are able to breed?

Gem Snow Leos

i have recently gotten into breeding leopard gecko.
