It states "Start with 2-5 crickets (per dragon) for the first feeding."

http://www.dachiu.com/care/bbeard.html

RE: New breeder

I'd like you to name some large scale breeders (by name) that feed their young lizards 100 crickets per day. I've been breeding Bearded Dragons for over 15 years and I can assure you that this is completely untrue.

RE: New breeder

I would not say that is not true at all. Many of the large-scale bearded dragon breeders feed their hatchlings fifteen to thirty crickets three times a day until they are around ten inches. Those tend to be the largest, most robust, and healthiest (but not powerfed) dragons as adults.

A few (if you are meaning three to ten) is not even close to enough for a hatchling. And hatchlings should never be fed any hard-shelled worms (mealworms, superworms, etc) and will refuse most vegetable matter.

RE: New breeder

"Each hatchling will eat around 100 crickets a day"
That is not true at all. I've bred Bearded Dragons and raised babies. A hatchling will eat a few crickets per day. This can be supplemented with greens and mealworms. Some studies have shown that half a Bearded Dragon's diet in the wild is vegetation.

RE: New breeder

Thats true thatks again for the input

RE: New breeder

Wasn't trying to sound mean, just had to be the reality check.

Breeding is great, but you may want to start with an easier species to breed like leopard geckos or crested geckos. And don't breed unless you are stable financially.

RE: New breeder

its not like money is the only thing i care about i wanna do it too so i can get the experience. but the money would be nice too. but i get what your saying about the money part, it makes sense. thanks for the input

RE: New breeder

You are completely wrong. Unless you are breeding on a very, very large scale, expect to lose money or break even. You will not make money from this endeavor, probably lose it. It would have to be simply for fun.

Bearded dragons lay an average of twenty-one eggs per clutch, and one clutch every three weeks. Each hatchling will eat around 100 crickets a day until they are eight weeks old (old enough to sell at that age) EVERY SINGLE DAY. That is an average of 2,100 crickets every day for your bearded dragons alone. Still think you will make a profit on those forty dollar lizards?

Read the last three sections about brumating, breeding, and hatchling care.
http://www.sundialreptile.com/care%20sheet--bearded%20dragon.htm

RE: New breeder

well the whole breeding thing takes like 4 months or more with breeding, egg laying, hatching thats y its a better idea to breed more the 1 pair of bearded dragons breeding can be really fun it gives you something to think about like when are the eggs gonna hatch? or i hope she layed eggs? breeding is really fun i think you should breed them.

RE: New breeder

i wanna breed him cause i think it would be really cool and im thinking of selling some of the babies cause im real short on cash now, but i have everything to breed him, i just gotta do it

RE: New breeder

bearded dragons and leopard geckos are both easily bred.It also depends on why you want to breed.

New breeder

I have never bred a reptile in the past, but my bearded dragon is getting close to that age and i was wondering if it was a good idea to start out breeding bearded dragons?
