I feed mine crushed Mazuri Rodent chow with some mazuri insectivore and lentils mixed in, mostly due to the low Ca content in all of the above.

i have been told to be careful with the calcium when it concerns roaches cause several people have told me that feeding them to much calcium will kill em i haven't tried this but i don't want to risk even one of my colonies

Thanks pythonman, I guess I wasnt too far off with just the cat food then..I was thinking maybe of adding in some powdered milk for calcium to it.

what i do is i do a 50%\50% split of dry dog food and dry cat food and toss it in a blender to make it a nice powder like substance and then i feed them that and veggies here and there and it has been working great for me

What is your own roach food made of..I had a colony of I think orange heads or deathheads or something like that once, cant really remember but I fed them ground up dry catfood and fresh veggies.

Im going to starting a colony of either dubias or those little fast red ones, I think they are call turkistans(?) .Anyway is there a better food to feed them then catfood?

I realy want to start a dubia colony it seems their pretty easy but im worried about overcrowding in the colony

over crowding is nothing to worry about cause if it does begin to happen you can sell off extras do a heavy feeding for a little while or what i would suggest would be too start a second colony and once the second colony is established you can alternate between the two colonies and any extra you could sell or trade for supplies i know of a couple local reptile stores who are willing to trade feeders for store credit

well i had some spare time and a camera today so i decided i would share how i keep my roach colonies
well first off let me say a few things roaches make wonderful feeders they are easy to breed have little to no odor and don't make a sound and alot of em are live bearers so no messing with eggs
so the species i keep are lobster roaches discoid roaches some hissers and one orange head roach the main two i will be discussing will be the lobster roaches and the discoids while i do not keep dubia their care is pretty much the exact same is discoids.
now most people tend to separate roaches into two main groups as far as feeders are concerned there are your climbing and your non climbing i keep both the lobster roaches are a climbing species while the discoids cannot and by climbing im talking about if they are able to climb plastic or glass walls or pretty much the ability to climb non-porous surfaces so on to the pictures!

well to start off the food and the water i use my own mixture for roach food which i can go more in depth on if wanted and for water i use a water polymer aka those water crystals but i get em dehydrated like so

and then i use egg crates and in this picture i have a standard egg crate then a deep egg crate i use both styles in my setups and there is also a bag of food and dehydrated water crystals

then this is what i place the food and the water in i get them for about a buck from the local store and it has two nice segments and for the non climbing species i take rough sand paper and make it all rough so they can climb in and out
