And I'm sure he was/and is now aware of it crickets drowning and more "haul-out" items

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

u really shouldnt just have a piece of driftwood as the only land! Its not that fair to them. They have to have a place to come out and hunt and to hide and feel secure. And anyways some how all of your crickets will die if driftwood is the only land you have for them.... theyre really stupid and will drown themselves...... i recomend having pebbles( like fish tank rocks) sloped upwards for them to climb out on.... that way itll be half land ( or a third maybe) and the other part water. Ps.... i have two firebellied toads so i know from expirence. ___________/ like that.... just not as steep!

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

here's video of mine. http://http://www.reptilechannel.com/reptile-videos/watch-video-261B29985B6A6CC222512210284401EA.aspx

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

everything has basicly been covered. have fun with your new toads.

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

I think so, I have a tank i setup for some dart frogs. Dust crickets once a week with D3 supplement. I use Herpcare cricket dust. The toads will eat the crickets in the water, on wood etc. As usual make sure there is no gravel or moss for them to accidentaly eat while hunting

It is fun to watch, they will grab them with thier mouths and then stuff it in with their hands. have fun!

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

no i cant post pics right now, i lost my camera, sorry

how should i feed my toads when i get them? do i just drop the crickets onto the driftwood?

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

nope driftwood is fine, can you post a picture? i have a half and half setup, adn still have a little rock, a corkbark piece, and a gravel island.

I like to give them choices on where they "haul out" maybe my male will get on the bark while the females lounge on the rock. just provide options

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

thanks thats very helpful. i was just worried because the set up i have is aquatic with just a piece of driftwood for them to haul out on, and someone told me that they needed to have a land bank, not just driftwood

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

Fire belly toads are very aquatic, they can have a full aquatic setup. but they need some access out of water: rocks, gravel slopes, driftwood, corkbark, all of these are good

and a filter helps, a repto filter is $20 from petsmart i think

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

so its ok if i dont have half of the aquarium land? and if the only land is a piece of driftwood?

RE: habitat for fire bellied toad

It needs to be water-friendly wood, like Mopani wood, which is commonly sold in stores.

And it is preferred to have a filter.
