Red Peppers and Beardies

I have a 3-4 month old red bearded dragon. He loves to eat bell peppers. Both green and red. I was just wondering if the red peppers are proven to lighten their color up a bit. It seems like it is but I could be wrong. Any ideas??

Hey all,

So I'm looking in to getting a blue tongue skink, and I think I have all the information I need...I am a little confused on one topic though, and that's UVA/UVB lighting.

Do they need it? I've read both yes and no. I figured I'd go ahead and ask you guys.

Also, what diet would you guys recommend? I've read several different things for their different needs; crickets or chicken, any fruit, mice. Could anyone provide clarification on that?

Breeding my normal leopard gecko

I am going to breed my normal female leopard gecko to either a bell albino or a tangerine morph. I'm new to this and was wondering what I would get. Will I get bell albino or tangerine babies or will they be het for whichever morph I choose? Or will I get something totally different?

Hey everybody i'm getting a Bearded Dragon! My moms co-worker is moving and can't keep him! He does have some health problems though his front paw got burned in a house fire and he has to receive a warm bath in order to use the restroom. The temperature is fine and so is his diet! I have no clue why this problem occurs. He is 3 years old also. Any one have any advice? My moms co-worker said since the accident the dragon has never been the same! Thanks for reading!

Oh I cannot begin to say how sad I am! What led to this tragedy was my Mom being in the hospital, out of town. Really bad luck lately. 2 mos ago my car & identity were stolen so I took Amtrak to c Mom. We thought it was a mere gall stone but when they went in found a huge tumor and to make story short it turns out she's dying of pancreatic & liver cancer. Needless to say we were all traumatized & shocked by this news which we got only 2 wks ago. Thinking I'd b outta town only a day or 2 I left my 7 beardies and 3 Uromastyx (& dog) in good care of my next door neighbor who really knows nothing about lizards at all. I left detailed instructions and brought him over b4 I left to show him how to feed & turn their lights on & off. I was gone 2 weeks just returning yesterday to find a horrible tragedy (another one!). I found one of my female dragons, Miss Fatty, named after my young daughter at the time she hatched because she was so much fatter than the other babies. But I had no idea she was gravid at the time of my leaving 2 wks ago. She's always been so fat! She was sitting in her cage looking the skinniest I've ever seen her. All over the cage were remnants of the poor little eggs she had laid I'm guessing up to 2-3 days before. There was dried egg yolk all over everything. Her poor front toenails were covered in dried blood. I'm guessing that with no proper nest provided she tried to dig thru the layer of sand until her toes bled. Then she lay those eggs, looked to be around 20. Hard to tell but some were intact just dried up like a raisin but there were a LOT of eggs. Poor Fatty! Her first time laying and I wasn't even here to help her, make her a nest and make an incubator like I did for Bo, her mother, 3 yrs ago. It was Bo's and my first time too and she lay 58 eggs all in ONE CLUTCH !! We got 49 live babies out of it! I was so proud. And now this. I feel so bad for poor little Fatty. Of course I'm concentrating on her and getting her weight back up but I wasn't able to save a single egg. I wonder if she knows. I know in the wild they cover the clutch with dirt and go on with their business but I almost feel like she's wondering what happened to all her little eggs. She tried desperately to cover them, and some were even under the rocks in the cage. It's really been a hard time since the first of March with one tragedy after another. Of course we're doing all we can for Mom but it just killed me to lose all those little baby dragons. I don't blame my neighbor either. He was just feeding for me and hadn't noticed her digging or the eggs or anything. It's no ones fault. Just bad luck and hopefully the next time I'll be here like I always am to make sure that never happens again. Sorry this is so long but I needed to get this out. At least to someone who understands how much we love our reptiles. I've had lizards, and my yellow bellied slider turtle, for yrs now and don't know what I'd do w/o them!! Thx 4 listening!

veiled chameleon, gravid, egg binding questions.

I have a gravid veiled Chameleon. Upon realizing she was gravid, it was late at night, I used what I had on hand, fine aspen shvvings for my snakes bedding. I put her in an unoccupied room and within hours she dug and laid 4 eggs. She seemed distracted so Next day got cat litter box, sand, and soil. Moistened enough to stay when dug in. Since putting her in a proper nesting box , she has dug around some but as far as I can tell has not laid any more eggs. I have a drip for hydration set up in the box, getting worried! She's laying in the dirt eyes closed , wont drink. she's deposited 4 , youbcan se more in hee belly, but why has she seemed to stop progressing. At what point do I need to worry about binding death / dehydration. I don't want to stress her more but almost want to force fluids in her. How long for a this nesting , digging, laying take. (In days) I want to check on her too but want to keep from disturbing her, she already looks very weak. When do I take serious action, and what cost can I expect if I have to find a vet. Calcium Defitioncy

She hasn't grown yet, but when I was reading "Reptiles USA" in the leopard gecko health I noticed that one of calcium defitioncys symptoms was lack of growth. I called the vet but it's WAY over priced to take her. Does anyone know how to treat it?

My chinese water dragon has her legs in a splint because she had two fractures due to MBD.
Apparently when they put the wrap around her legs, they had it too tight and her foot began to turn dark. Immediately I took off the wrapping and re-did it very loosely but now her toes look all dried up and completely dead.
Obviously I am trying to get her to a vet but it is proving difficult to find someone who works with reptiles who is available on a Saturday.
I am just wondering if anyone has advise as to what we can do until we get her some help to prevent further tissue damage or at least to help her feel more comfortable. She is clearly under stress.

June bugs as gecko food?

I fed my leopard gecko a couple of good-sized june bugs last night and she loved them. My question is do you think it would be safe to continue feeding them to her? They are awfully big and crunchy. I would keep them for a few days to make sure they pass any toxins they may have eaten.

Hi.
I have a 6 month old beardie. He's healthy and eats every day. He has greens always available, and gets insects everyday he wants to eat them.

However, when I buy him crickets and offer them to him, he doesn't want them.

Is it possible he just doesn't like them and prefers his other insects? He has eaten them before, but he doesn't seem to want them anymore. Is he just picky?

Even though i stated he's too young, i said that i would glady adopt it when he gets bored of it. So i figured that once again I'd ask my amazing fellow herpers for some lizards that fits his bill.

Was just wondering at what age or size can a chinese water dragon start eating pinkies? Im wondering this because my cwd has not been eating and usually i can atleast get her to eat her favorite wich is meal worms. But today she grabbed a piece of my dogs ripped up stuffed animal (it looked like it had fur) with her mouth and started thrashing it around like she was trying to eat it or something. But she didnt want anything to do with the meal worms i tried to give her. Can anyone help?! I took her to the vet and they said she was pretty healthy besides being a little impacted( i cant get her to eat anything to give her her meds though)

albino leopard gecko will shut his eyes for at least 3 min when exposed in heat lamp for a period of time. My friend says he is light sensitive. What do you think is wrong? So i just found out my water dragon might be a female. This being said i think she may be getting ready to lay eggs. I bought some top soil from a farm store but i know it has to be sterile. This stiff says it has softwood bark and sawdust, aged and composted animal manures and coarse sand. Is this safe? Or should i bake it first?

The current owner is keeping her in a 4' H x 22" L x 19.25" D. I have a feeling that's quite a bit too small, but that might just be my guess. She's quite personable, and I just would like to know whether to get the cage with her or not. I have a 6'Lx2'Dx2'H from my monitor that will soon be available since my monitor needs an upgrade ASAP. I was thinking of using that for the iggy, but I have a feeling that's either too small or it's not tall enough and the dimensions wouldn't be right.

so my cham was doing perfect for the longest time. then i noticed his eyes looked kind of puffy. a coulple of days went by and he got a lot worse, breathing with his mouth open and dark coloration. i went in there after doing my morning rounds and he was just hanging by one leg with his eyes seriously bulging and just gasping his last breaths. does anyone know what my have caused this?
