What should i get next?

I am thinking of getting either a green iguana or a leopard gecko. i have done all my research on both of them and know where i could get both of them(i would get them from a breeder not from petco or petsmart). i am leaning more towards a green iguana just because i like bigger animals. right now i have a Chinese water dragon... that is a little over a foot long.
Does one adapt better to humans than the other? i understand that a iguana would be more hard to take care of(mostly because of the size difference). i also understand that they are two completely different animals.

Hi guys!

I'm looking into getting another lizard. I have been researching crested geckos and anoles, but I wanted some opinions from you guys. I would prefer another gecko or another small lizard. Preferably something that can be kept in a tank around 30 gallons.

Armadillo lizard substrate

My pet store has a armadillo lizard for $20. It is definatly an armadillo lizard so that seems like a very decent price. It is eating and all, so I think I might get it. Just one thing. What substate should I use. I only use sand for desert snakes like, cal king snakes or pueblans, because they won't eat it and get impacted. I read eco-earth is a good substrate, but I would rather use astro-turf. Because when I feed it it would injest eco-eath and get impacted. So I think I will use astro-turf, but do they need to burrow?

My plan went terribly wrong!

In a recent post, I said I was going to get a corn snake for a tank, but it seemed that my mom suddenly changed her mind about snake because she is suddenly scared of them. It is just because she really doen't have knowlege about these peaceful critters of nature. My mom and dad will allow me to purchase a lizard. This was a very tough decision because I hada savannah monitor in the past whichwas AWSOME! I never had leopard gecko or bearded dragons, but heard they are great as pets. I don't knowif I should tackle new lzards or stick with the past. Well my tank rcently shattered due to an incident with my little cousin...I will be purchasing eighter a 40 gallon breeder (36 x 18 x 13) or a 50 gallon tank (48 x 18 x 13).

I have a few questions:

How long will a baby savannah monitor at 5 in. last in a 40 gallon breeder and a 50 gallon? For example, lets say the savannah monitor can live in the 40 until it is 18in. and in the 50 gallon until itis 24in..

Will one bearded dragon live in a 50 gallon comfortably? I was recommended that 40 gllon breeders are to small for them.

P.S. The tank measurements are based on L x W x H, also I'm well aware that savanah monitors will require a tank of at least 6ft by 3ft by 2ft when mature..

I'm looking at this ther tank also that measures at 48 x 24 x 12...

[font=Times New Roman]I've done a lot of research already and I;m pretty sure I know what I need to know, I've got it all priced out and all I have to do is save up the money. I even got a humidity/therm thing for my room to be sure I didn't need to provide heat. (My room stays between 70 and 78F all day, 55% humidity nearly 24/7) I have a tank already that I've had for a while, 20 gallon. I already have an adult bearded dragon and my dads baby corn snake stays in my room. (My room looks like a zoo! I love it!) Anything I should know/look out for? Post pics of your cresties! I wanna see them!!

Another anole question

I am thinking of getting one those glass terrariums with the doors on the front. The trouble is that the screen top is fairly dense. I am concerned that it would block a lot of the UVB from passing through. I was going to get a 5% UV bulb, but will I need a 10% because of the density of the mesh? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure the anole will get enough UVB.

Hi!

My question is would Zeus (my leo gecko) be able to handle a pinkie mouse? He is roughly 10 inches long and I'm not sure how much he weighs, but from holding him, I would guess around 60-80 grams. (I am saving up for a scale that will measure in grams)

Anyway, I thought that he might enjoy something else than crickets and mealworms and it might warm my mom up to having frozen mice in the fridge. (I have talked to her about the snake again, and she loves Zeus, so if I feed him a pinkie mouse every now and then, she might be more open to the idea of me feeding mice?)

Getting anole and have questions

I am planning on getting a green anole around the end of November. I have been doing lots of research about them by way of books and several websites. I've got some questions that I hope you guys can answer.

1. Should I use a 2.0 or 5.0 UVB bulb? I can't find any info this.
2. My resources say to keep the basking spot at 85-90 degrees. What do you keep your anole's basking site at?
3. Do they need hiding spots? If so, how should they be made?
4. How can I keep the anole from darting out of the tank when I remove the screen cover for feeding and maintenance?

Hello All! I'm new to this channel and hope this will help me and I"ll try to help others. I have a 50 gallon tank and I was wondering what kinds of snakes or lizards con live happily in it. I"ve been researching on Bearded Dragons because they are always availible, but at reptile expos many hard to get lizards are there. For snakes I've been thinking about corn snakes. Please help me identify other reptiles that can live in this enclosure, the dimentions are 48 by 18 by 12 I think.

Real wood and rocks?

I am interested in using wood and rocks that I found outside in my leopard gecko's terrarium. Has anyone used these items before? How can I properly sterilize them before use?

The reason I ask is because I want to add more climbing areas to Yoshi's enclosure. I don't have a job, and my husband has to support my hobby. I can't keep spending fifteen dollars or more on things at the pet store.

I've noticed lately that my blizzard Leopard Gecko is developing a yellowish tint on the top of his scales. Its not like its in one concetrated area, its all over. The yellow isn't that noticable, you can only see up close. Is this normal?

i have a 20 month old sav and im looking for people to talk about them with. lol

nothing major, just kinda peves me but my male sav seems to perfer my girlfriend over me. if im holding him he'll be fine... until she comes over, he'll just keep trying to get away from me to get near her. not aggressively he just wiggles and doesnt sit still until hes cuddleing with her. if im letting him roam my room and shes over he'll just climb up a chair or my bed to get to her. just wondering why

Gecko shedding!

Last night I was trying to figure out why Yoshi didn't eat her dinner. I looked inside the humidity hide and discovered why. She was shedding. I am so excited that I finally got to watch my gecko shed! I also got a pic of one of the sheds she didn't eat. Has anyone ever seen their reptile do this?

Recommendations for a new pet.

Hello there, just wanted to get some thoughts on my next pet lizard as snakes are out of the question.

I've kept basic lizards for about 4 years now (mostly leopard geckos) and I am looking at my options for my next new pet. I'd like to here your thoughts on what you think is the best pet lizard. Here are some loose guidelines:

Maximum 6 feet long (nothing to small)
Nothing that needs daily care
Needs to be a sociable species more or less

I think that I want either an Iguana, Monitor Species, Panther Chameleon or a Leachy Gecko. But I would love some new suggestions, or specific species.

I got my Uroplatus lineatus

My pair of Lined Leaf Tail Geckos came in today, yes! They are simply stunning, 10 times better than I thought that they would be, and alot bigger also. These guys are massive. I have seen the female eat 3 crickets already, and I dont know about the male. They arrived in plastic containers with semi-wet paper towels in them, and no moss-which I dont understand. So I am working on hydrating them, I have the humidity almost up to 90% but with pretty good ventilation. I named them Coco (female) and Puff (male). I will get pictures up soon, they are already stressed enough so pictures today wouldn't have been a good idea.

My Cresties tail fell off

My one and a half year old male crested geckos' tail fell off today. When I got home from school I saw a tail laying on the ground in the cage. People are working on my roof and its very loud and shakes my wall. Well one of the pieces of bambo in his cage fell and hit him, so he was startled and dropped his tail. I am pretty upset about it. I will watch it closely to make sure no infections form. Has this every happened to anyone else?

Skinks

Well, there's already a thread for monitors, so why not one for skinks?

I was wondering if anyone else on this forum kept skinks. They seem so uncommon when compared to herps like beardies and leos, but I think they make really interesting pets.

I currently have a Broad-Headed skink (Plestiodon laticeps) named Smaug and I'm hoping to get a female next year to breed with him in 2011. Broad-headed skinks are really uncommon pets and on the entire internet I've only come across 2 other people that have experience with the species. They aren't bred and are rarely kept in captivity. Another uncommon species I'm interested in is the Great Plains skink (Plestiodon obsoletus), which get a bit bigger than broad-heads.

In a couple years, I'd like to get a larger skink, such as a Blue Tongue or Prehensile Tail skink.

OK, I think I've made it obvious that I really like skinks. If you have any skinks, plan to get some, or are just fascinated by them, here's the place to talk about them!

curly tail lizards

My curly tails used to always be sunning themselves on their log, but lately, they hide in the substrate all the time. One I haven't seen in weeks, but the other I see occasionally. I know they're there because the food disappears. Why are they hiding like this all the time?

My first question is about the phoenix worms, Is it true that you don't have to dust them with the calcium supplement because it already is? My second question is about a prepared food bag for omnivore diets, it claims that all you have to do is add water and feed, does this work? thank you and have a nice day

Zoo Med leo food?

My leopard gecko is only eating mealworms right now because she is refusing crickets. She needs to eat a better variety of foods. Has anyone successfully tried Zoo Med leopard gecko food? I know leos generally prefer live insects, but I am thinking about trying it.
