If your going by "natural" standards, that is. Hybrids do happen in the wild, carpondros are actually a possibility by nature as there is a small part of Australia where chondros live and it's possible that it could cross paths with a carpet. Other things are more of a stretch but given enough time and natural events anything can happen.
However I have said before and will say again...there is NOTHING natural about keeping snakes or any animal for that matter. Therefore there is NOTHING natural about the things we make from them. color morphs, selective breeding, hybriding, it is all the same thing. Human projects. not nature.

RE: Hybrids, Integrades, Morphs, Oh My!

Heres my simple opinion. Iwill speak no more on the subject after that.

My reasons that i'm a purist: The intergrades are so interbred (in carpets)that you can't hardly find a REAL pure anymore, or that they breed animals to animals that they would usually never come into contact with, Such as Carpondros, Burm X Ball, Ect. Ect. And morphs are not bad, they just get a little overboard with the ball pythons.
Thank you and have a good Evening

RE: Hybrids, Integrades, Morphs, Oh My!

The point of this hobby, or any other hobby, is for our own enjoyment, so we can do whatever we want with the animals as long as it doesn't threaten the well being of the specimen.

You keep saying the word "natural." Are you against morphs? Could you catch a jungle x coastal integrade in Australia? Yes, you very well could. Could you catch a coastal jag? No.

Are you against selective breeding? A lemon yellow jungle is a very rare sight in the wild. The reason jcps are considered attractive snakes is due to selective breeding...

RE: Hybrids, Integrades, Morphs, Oh My!

Everything should stay pure. The reason for the hobby is to better understand these animals, Not to breed them to things that'll never meet for millennia. If you wanna get to plate tectonics and that stuff, Find a way to live forever, Than when they naturally meet get a W/C one that is NATURAL.

RE: Hybrids, Integrades, Morphs, Oh My!

Not all hybrids are incapable of reproducing actually...in fact a lot of hybrid snakes are very capable of it and some hybrid projects are working on second or third generations now both from hybrid parents.
Carpondros and borneo bat eaters are some of my favorites!
As long as people label them for what they are it isn't a problem. I don't see why anyone hybridizing would play them down to be a pure animal anyways because hybrids generally sell for more.

RE: Hybrids, Integrades, Morphs, Oh My!

I have no problem with hybrids, but if people make to many there could be no pure animals left in, say 50 years for some species. So as long as there are some pure strains left, it is just fine with me. Only some are actually hybrids, because a hybrid is an animal incapable of reproducing.

RE: Hybrids, Integrades, Morphs, Oh My!

They've produced a lot of neat herps with hybridizing, and I don't see anything wrong with it.

RE: Hybrids, Integrades, Morphs, Oh My!

A couple other cool hybrids are the super ball (blood x ball) a carpondro (carpet x gtp) and the burm ball hybrid.

RE: Hybrids, Integrades, Morphs, Oh My!

I have no probablem with hybrids I don't know why fred was making such a big deal about it.

RE: Hybrids, Integrades, Morphs, Oh My!

A carpall (carpet python x ball python)? It was Mustang's thread, so I didn't want to hijack it. I figured it would be interesting, so I made my own thread about it.

Here is the debate so far. Please do not participate in the debate on the thread below!

http://board.reptilechannel.com/Topic104497-8-1.aspx

There you go.
