Here is a description. It is a 10 gallon tank, he is the size of a nickel. I have a square tupperware container filled with water about 4" x 6", about 4" deep. It also has a couple of rocks in it so that he can climb out. There is also a larger rock for him to sun on, and the rest of the cage is filled with mulch. There is a heat lamp and I have been keeping the aquarium around 80 degrees. He has seemed fine in this set up for now. He climbs in and out of the water, spends most of the time in the water. He swims, floats, and eats in the water. He has not eaten any veggies when I give them to him, but he has been eating the aquatic turtle pellets from the pet store. I know that as he grows, he will need a much bigger tank and more water. He has now been burried under the mulch since yesterday morning. What should I do?

RE: Yellow belly slider acting strange, help quick please

post pics of him and the tank.

Yellow belly slider acting strange, help quick please

I have a baby yellow belly slider turtle that has been living in and out of his water for about 2 weeks. This morning, he burrowed under the mulch in his aquarium and didn't come out. So I cleaned out the cage to find him, put him in water and then put his cage back together. I put him back in, and he immediately burrowed under the mulch again. I left him alone and he has been burried all day. What could this be? Is he trying to hybernate? He has a heat lamp, so I know he's not cold. We found him when he was only about 2 weeks old, (per the guy at the pet store) and has been acting pretty happy since we have had him for about two weeks. He is eating hatchling formula turtle food. Any help would be appreciated. I am worried that he is burying himself to die or something.
