I have 5 (asian) Malay Box turtles and it's been 8 years now since I've got them.Im keeping them outside to get a natural UVA/UVB from the sun.There is a portion in their enclosure that has water that they can soak,I keep the water level 2-3 inches deep only..well it depends how big and old is your box turtle..Im feeding them mostly turtle food/stick,earth worms, and sometimes veggies but not the iceberg lettuce because it doesnt have much nutritional value.Get some cuttle bone for calcium intake and if you keeping your turtle inside provide a heat and UVB lamp.

It looks to me like a South(east) Asian or Malayan Box turtle (Cuora amboinensis). I would recommend researching along those lines. There are several sites with good information and breeders of this species as well. By the way, there are several species of "Asian Box turtles" and their care differs according to the species.

You can do a Google serach for "Asian Box Turtle Care Sheet" and find quite a bit of information (including a care sheet on this website). Asian Box Turtles are different than U.S. Box Turtles in that some species are primarily aquatic. Some types also spend 50% on land and 50% in water. This website has some pretty good information:

Asians are both like the American box turtles, except they seem to enjoy the water so much more then most American boxies. Mine spend a lot of the time (even the majority I think) of their time in their water.

This is all true. Never use iceberg lettuce in a salad. You need more land in the setup and a small water dish.

North American box turtles are primarily terrestrial. They live in moist woodland and will sometimes come into contact with standing water. I would remove the turtle from that type of enclosure. I would setup a terrestrial habitat and add a small bowl that the turtle can fit into for water, but not deeper than 30-40% of the turtles body. How long have you been keeping the turtle like this? Also that salad in the picture is no where close to as nutritious as it needs to be. I would do some research on keeping North American Box Turtles.

I have a question that has bugged me for as long as I've had my turtle. Let me start at the beginning to be more clear on the subject. About, oh I dont know how many years ago, I got an asian Box Turtle as a pet. Up until about a week ago I decided to check its gender, and to my surprise, he was a she(go figure my late timing). Anyways the problem I've got is that I dont know if shes a water turtle or more terrain type turtle. She enjoys playing in the water, but I think shes a land turtle. Another fact is that I haven't put her on substrate in a while and I dont know how she would be able to handle it, her tank is mostly water filled. I have a few pictures below of her so if anyone could help, that would be most awesome.

P.S(If shes both, please tell me, then I can make a self made hybrid tank )
