LORD OF THE FROGS

"It began with the spawning of the great frogs. Three were given to the elves, Seven to the dwarf lords. And nine. Nine frogs were given to the race of men. For within these frogs was bound the strength and will to govern each race. But they were all deceived. For another frog was spawned. Deep in the Amazon rainforest the dark lord Sauron spawned a master frog to control all others. And in this frog he poured his cruelty his malice and his will to dominate all life. ONE FROG TO RULE THEM ALL." Lord of the Rings entry.

Parks, and maybe some swampy areas if there are any around. I'm new to CA myself, but in the southern part. I really wanted to comment on your siggy. It is GREAT, and I laughed my butt off reading it. I like to change the word 'love' in songs to 'cheese', but it's way better with frogs and Tolkein!

I vacation/herp in Los Gatos every year. It's close to San Jose. I have several years worth of California herping pics in the "Herping USA" section of my website.

You didn't state what types of specific herps you are looking for, but Slender Salamanders, Fence Lizards and Pacific Chorus Frogs are all very common.

Snakes are somewhat harder to find, but in your general area I've found Gophers, Garters (both this year at Steven's Creek), Cal Kings, Ringnecks, Sharptail Snakes, Racers and Northern Pacific Rattlesnakes. I'm still trying to find my first Rubber Boa and Mountain Kingsnake.

Here's a Pacific Gopher Snake that I found in April on Mount Hamilton:
