I've seen snappers here in Tennessee but never that close up. I recently got a turtle out of the road too.

Nice find! My dad accidentally ran over a snapper in a puddle with the truck (he didn't notice until after it happened). My sister and I brought him up to the house in hopes we could help him, and the injures really didn't look too bad (compared to the serious injuries that my sister's box turtles had after being chewed on by a dog, and they recovered!), but he didn't live more than a few days. Poor thing, I'm guessing it must have been internal injures that killed him.
