| Hey guys. New to the forums. Just read about it yesterday in the Reptiles Magazine I picked up at the local pet store. I haven't owned any reptiles for over 2 years. I found out I was going to be a dad and decided it would be more responsible to find new homes for my collection. I had 2 6 foot red tail boas, a juvenile 2 foot red tail, a young 3 foot retic who was a rescue, and a 4 foot Savannah Monitor. I knew i wouldn't have time for everything and a new baby. Things are finally settling down for me and my son is now 14 months old, and I'm thinking of getting back into the hobby but want to start small. Was thinking of maybe a crested gecko or one of the very attractive hognose morphs I have been seeing lately. Any suggestions or advice would be welcome. I'm glad to be here. I am really enjoying all the information available through this site. Thanks a bunch.

Welcome! Leopard geckos are great reptiles to own. They are easy to care for and don't take up a lot of space.

Welcome! I would definitely look into the hognose snakes, or my personal favorite, the blue tongue skink

Hey, welcome to RC and back to the reptile hobby!
I hear corn snakes make great pets, and I've got a black ratsnake who's great for handling and they get a bit bigger than corns. Cresteds and hognoses sound like good choices too…but so do leopard geckos!

| Welcome to the forums. It's good to see another Dad here. My daughter is 22 months old and loooves the critters. Today she helped me mix some crested gecko diet and spoon it into dishes. You mentioned hognose snakes and crested geckos. I have both and think they are both great candidates for "starting small'. Cresteds are great if you want something that is low maintenence. I have a male and female that I hatched who need good homes, PM me if you are interested.

| I have had leopard geckos before. They are a lot of fun and very interesting to watch. As far as size goes, I am currently not looking for anything that gets much bigger then 12 inches if a lizard or 4-5ft if a snake. I have experience with large snakes and monitors, but I don't have the space to keep them anymore. I really wish I did. Out of all the reptiles I have kept my Savannah monitor was my favorite. At 4.5ft long he enjoyed being held, scratched, and walked and was a lot of fun to watch eat.

CharlieDraco (10/4/2009) I am very interested but for some reason I am unable to pm you. I'll try it from a different computer.
The PM's have been disabled. If you want to get in contact, you could possibly get each others e-mail.
