I want a fire bellied toad, and i was wondering if its ok to just have a piece of drift wood floating on the surface for the land part? also do you need to have a filter for the water?

It needs to be water-friendly wood, like Mopani wood, which is commonly sold in stores.

And it is preferred to have a filter. It would decrease the amount of work you have to do, keep the water clear (needed for amphibians) and adds water flow to the tank.

Fire belly toads are very aquatic, they can have a full aquatic setup. but they need some access out of water: rocks, gravel slopes, driftwood, corkbark, all of these are good

and a filter helps, a repto filter is $20 from petsmart i think

nope driftwood is fine, can you post a picture? i have a half and half setup, adn still have a little rock, a corkbark piece, and a gravel island.

I like to give them choices on where they "haul out" maybe my male will get on the bark while the females lounge on the rock. just provide options

Yes, that would be fine. Dust crickets once a week with D3 supplement. I use Herpcare cricket dust. The toads will eat the crickets in the water, on wood etc. As usual make sure there is no gravel or moss for them to accidentaly eat while hunting

It is fun to watch, they will grab them with thier mouths and then stuff it in with their hands. have fun!

oh i have one more question. do i need to cycle the aquarium before i put the frogs into it? cause i know that for my fish tanks i had to make sure that it didn't have any ammonia or nitrite in the water before i put fish in, is that the same for frogs?
