I was wondering if anybody has ever built a table cage.  I saw one that looks cool, but i dont think it looks very safe.  I was thinking of building one similar if it is safe for both the herp and me.  How would I go about with ventilation, installing lights so that its not a fire hazard, etc.?

I received a huge cabinet style cage with some water dragons I rescued. Their overall health was poor enough that I moved them into "hospital" cages, the cabinet went to the garage. Then I took in an immature sulcata. After her respiratory infection cleared up I put the cabinet on it's back and it is now her enclosure.

it is approximately 25 square feet in total with 2 foot sides. I made one end(25 % of the cage) her heated hide. I am always very cautious with any heat source, including heat mats. I use a forest floor type bedding. Watch out for hay or alfalfa because if the critter really gets to digging they can push the grass up into the heat lamp.

I have rescued almost 60 reptiles. Many I choose to go and pick up and I find that most people are really very careless with heat lamps and heat mats. One ball python I cared for, the owner had the large tank sitting directly on the cord to the heat mat. I monitored the heat mat the first weekend and found it was shorting out and reaching over 150 degrees. you cook hamburger to 165!!!

I have a ball python that is part of my education program and she had severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns to almost half of her belly. her owner couldn't treat and relinquished her to me.

Please take cage design and heating very serious.

This is for my emperor scorpion. And yes, Ian trying take every saftey precaution for him and my household. I was going to leave the front and back uncovered with a heat mat on the side of the tank. Would this be safe enough?
