My male lined leaf tail gecko (Uroplatus lineatus) had some poop on his mouth when I got him because he defecated in the container. I got as much as I could off. I just sprayed his mouth twice a day to loosen it up. Most of it came off, but then his mouth looked like it does in the pictures. Is it a mouth infection? Please do not just respond with just take him to a vet, thanks.

Take him to a vet is a reasonable response since none of us are trained in animal medicine and some of you are very inexperienced and have never even seen a mouth infection.

It looks like there is some clear fluid or discharge around the mouth, am I right?  Unless you know what's going on, you shouldn't try to treat it yourself.  I do know that you should keep it clean. Swabbing it with diluted Bentadine twice a day will help and is safe.

I'm assuming that your gecko is wild caught. If it is, it could have problems so have him checked by pro.

I am eventually going to take him to the vet, but I wanted to see what people thought about it. There is no swelling, it looks like after the feces was removed the skin had eroded and the tissue is whats underneath. What I was trying to find out is if anybody on these forums has seen anything like this. On another forum another Uroplatus keeper says he has seen it before and it is like a nose rub and just needs to heal. I just wanted to get a second opinion before I just move on and hope it gets better.
