| Ok, Here it goes... What is the difference between a "Fat Tailed Gecko" and a "Leopard Gecko". I bought a Leopard Gecko at a local pet store, but it has no black spots what so ever. I did see a Fat Tail Gecko in Reptiles Magazine that looks like the one I have. Is there a difference between the 2? Thanks, Brian

| They are different species, but in honesty they all look the same to me, even the different morphs each species has looks the same.... I THINK AFT's get a little bigger...like..stockier..... but again... they are very VERY similar.

I would say Leopard gecko
most common AFT's are tan and brown colors, some with a white stripe down the back. They have morphs that can be more brilliantly colored but the chances of you coming across one in a pet store are extremely slim

| That photo is of a young leopard gecko. While care of African Fat-tailed Geckos is outwardly similar to Leopard Geckos, the humidity should be kept somewhat higher for Fat-tails, or shedding problems and dehydration can result. Here's one of my favorite geckos, a Southwest Banded Gecko that I found this summer in the Las Vegas area:

With the number of morphs there are these days I don't even know what a "normal" leopard gecko is (granted i'm not a leo person) but I would say it's possible to get a gecko without spots from a pet store. The one you pictured is young though and the spots don't generally develop till later in life.

| Thanks to everone that posted replies. It been a great help. And yes, that pic was from around 3 months ago. She has gotten a lot bigger. The more I'm reading on the forums, the more I'm thinking of taking the sand/calcium away from her. She seems to be doing fine with it, but I realy would hate anything to happen to her. Am I over reacting?

Ik that pic of the "Leopard gecko" is not a leopard gecko, but a tuscan gecko i believe. And that is definantly a leo and yes most leos nowadays dont have that many spots except for snows and super snows
