First off, I have a Leopard ( or Fat Tail) Gecko

I have a 20 Gal Long tank with sand (calci) with a hide rock, branches, food and a medium sized water bowl.  I am having problems keeping the humidity up in the tank- Its generally 15-20 percent.

My question is:

How do I keep the humidity up to the 30% range consistently?  Should I place a damp sponge in the tank?

I've been spritzing the tank a couple times a day.  The temp is keep in the range of 83-90 F  The hood is Zilla  "All in one Lighting"  30".

Thanks for the advice,

Brian

Well to answer your question you need to know what gecko you have. As leopard geckos do not require a very high humidity, but some is required because in the wild they live underground in somewhat moist soil and rocks. Fat tailed geckos require a much higher humidity. So you need to find out which of the two you have because their care is not the same.

1.0 Pogona vitticeps

1.2 Rhacodactylus ciliatus

0.2 Eublepharis macularius

1.1 Phelsuma lineate

1.1 Uroplatus lineatus

Leopard geckos humidity should be thirty percent or lower.  No spraying, adding damp sponges, or anything like that should not be done.  A humid hide is a good addition to a leopard gecko tank to help with their shedding.

0.1 Eublepharis macularias
1.0.1 Rhacodactylus ciliatus
0.0.4 Terrapene carolina
0.0.1 Theloderma corticale

What do you mean by Leopard or Fat-Tailed Gecko? I hope you don't think there the same thing.

Well, what I ment was that I bought my gecko at a local pet store.  It was marked as a Lepord Gecko.  So, 3 - 4 months later I was reading Reptiles Magizine and on page 33 of the December issue apeears a picture of what my Gecko looks like.  The title of the article is Up and Coming Geckos which talks about Fat Tailed Geckos!  So it just made me wonder- Thats all.

Also, from what I was told, Fat Tails Geckos and Lepoard Geckos are similar in appearance, but the Fat Tails do require more humidity.

Please see pics

Thanks

Thanks...

Is it true that their appearance are similar to one another?  What are the similarities/dissimilarities?

Thanks for your help
