i have seen lice treatments using the same active ingredients as prevent a mite at the same concentration both are as follows

permethrin..........0.50%

i have seen lice treatments sold for mite treatments before it was actually in a store not to far from me and you would just use the same instructions as the prevent a mite and if you need em just say so i have em good luck with the mites

Dude, sucks to be you.  I had a snake mite infestation with my ball python.  I feel for you bro.  Head lice tx. could possibly harm your snake.  I would suggest you take it to the vet and get some ivermectin solution to put in a spray bottle.  It works and is highly effective.  Plus, it's only like 8 bucks and you can only get it from a vet.  A feed store might have it...it's a sheep dewormer.

Another thing you want to do is put your snake on newspaper, get a simple hide made out of an old butter container/tupperware, and a plastic water dish.  Make it basic and in a seperate tank, if possible.  Take your other tank and place a dose of OTC flea med for dogs/cats in a dish made out of aluminum foil.   Then carefully place that in the tank.  Seal up the tank with garbage bags and duct tape.  Place it somewhere (outside if possible) safe for about 4-6 weeks.

Next, treat your snake with the spray.  It will take a few weeks to kill all the mites.  Plus, they climb quite well, so vacuum daily!  They live and breed in carpet but cannot live without a host for longer than a few days.  I would wait a week or two to make sure your snake is clear of mites before you put it back in it's cage.  Oh yeah, over the counter (OTC) stuff you get at pet stores that are 'all natural' don't work.  Not at all!  You're better off taking your snake to the vet and doing as I mentioned above.  From experience.

Peace.

I did a 2oz bottle of rid to a gallon of distilled water and put it in a spray bottle. coated snakes and removed them from original sterilites and put in new 32 qts with white paper towels, and heat pad only for 24 hours and then returned clean fresh water(to prevent washing of permithin) and sequestered them to my bedroom(out of herp room) and all three snakes have been, knock on wood miteless for about 10 days im going to give them another 7 days before returning them (i also gave them a precationary coat this week)

That sounds like a high concentration of chemical.  Watch your snakes carefully as lice medication is highly toxic.  Any signs of twitching or abnormal movement, take them to the vet immediately.  Let me know how they're doing.

It's a few dollars more to purchase a can of Provent-A-Mite compared to the lice treatments at the drugstore, but overall PAM was thoroughly tested on reptiles and proven safe and is the only EPA approved product for reptiles.

PAM is extremely easy to use and if you follow simple directions on the can it is super effective. One dose properly done will take care of any mite problems.

yea , i became aware of the glories of pom a day late i'm afraid, i did some quick research(talked to a friend) and tried the rid therapy, at a 1:64 dillution, as was recommeded and bare in mind this is a'shampoo" product, and was very effective on the mites, however i now have six month old male bci that has regurged for a third time(post treatments) so apparently there are some isssues, the other two animals that were treated seem very normal though, my vet is out of town for the holidays so....any suggestions on the regurging?
