I have a crested gecko that doesn't respont to the movement of feeder insects. His main diet is crested gecko diet, but I would like to supplement his diet, and give him the exercise and thrill of catching live feeder insects. I have tried crickets, mealworms, superworms, roaches, and even a horn worm, whis he a didn't seem to care about any of them, so I threw to them the garbage disposal, my leopard gecko. Another thing is, if he is inertestied, can I feed my crested gecko a pinkey mouse as a monthly treat. They are about the size of leopard geckos, who I know can eat pinkys. But they do have a little different diet, and leos are more robust. So please comment.

I personally would not feed anything more than crickets and wax worms...and even those only occasionally. While cresties DO eat insects, they are not really equipped to process to much animal proteins and in most cases cannot adequately digest the tough shells of some insects such as super worms. I have never heard of anyone feeding a cresty a pinky and I can't imagine a case where it would be necessary. They are primarily fruit eaters after all and it is very unlikely that they ever seek out mammals as food in the wild. If your cresty is not interested in insects I wouldn't bother with them. Crested gecko diet alone is more than enough to keep your gecko happy and healthy. If you want to stimulate him some try adding more things to climb on and hide in.

Crested geckos can not eat mice, even if they are large enough for them.  They area frugivores (fruit-eaters) and insectivors (insect-eaters).  Their bodies are not designed to process meat.  Leopard geckos are insectivores (insect-eaters) and carnivors (meat-eaters) so it is okay for them to eat appropriately sized mice.

If your gecko doesn't want to eat insects, don't force it.  He will be perfectly happy and healthy on a diet of solely Crested Gecko Diet.

Some of mine aren't to interested either. They don't eat them every day, once or twice a week. I just leave them in the cage overnite or 2 & if the crickets get hungry they can eat the gecko diet. I don't use other bugs or mice. Like everyone else said CGD is fine by itself. Good luck, Jeff

if you are leaving the crickets in there cage overnight and they aren't eating them you could try hand feeding them crickets to dot this grab a female cricket by the hand and put it's egg laying tube into your geckos mouth your gecko will open it mouth and should bite the cricket let og and grab another cricket and when your gecko is done chew and swallowing and is just licking place another on in it's mouth i do this once a week as i place about 20-30 crickets in a container inthe bottom of their cage and after two day i only have about 5 left so i hand fed them and the gecko just open up no probelm now   also i have heard of pinkies being feed to crested geckos i would only tell you to do this if you had a sick under weight animal if you are trying to fatten up your gecko waxworms or other soft bodied worm are great for that

dont feed the cresteds anything more than the CGD, waxworms, and crickets..my little crested wouldnt take the waxworm treat..so i had an idea to dip the waxworms in the CGD and he gobbled them up!! try dipping the feeders (crickets and waxworms) in the CGD..

so only feed them CGD, ocassional waxworms and crickets..no roaches, no mice..

Roaches are perfectly fine for crested geckos.  They are even a little healthier than crickets.  I'm actually trying to switch over from crickets to roaches.  I know a lot of people that feed crickets to their crested geckos, and they do great.

Crested geckos generally will not take any worms, but if you can get yours to eat them, mealworms, phoenix worms, and wax worms are good to feed.
