| I have a Mexican Black Kingsnake, Demon, my little baby. Which I am pretty sure is a she now. So, She is about 22" long and I have had her close to 3 months. I keep her in a 30gal. tank with aspen substrate. I keep the hot side around 82-84 deg. and the cool side around 70-73 deg. with the rel. humidity hovers between 42-50. I change her water, and clean the dish every couple days she eats about 3 pinkies or 1 fuzzie when fed every 4-5 days. I am working on getting her a Zoo Med 2.0 light, but for now I am using 1 Exo-Terra 75w Night Glo moonlight bulb and one GE Reptile rays blacklight bulb, at night. And in the daytime I am keeping the Night Glo on and replacing the other with a GE Reptile Rays Neodymium Daytime Heat light bulb. All bulbs are in a two cheap silver dome work light fixtures for now. On Nov. 12 she had a fall from about waist high on to a rug, but she didnt act like it bothered her at all. (Today is Nov. 19) The next day her eyes were milky and she started to act a little lazy. I thought it was because of the shed, but she is barely lifting her head when I talk to her- which is very unusual because normally she goes crazy. She still hasnt shed. I fed her a pinkie when I fed my hognose yesterday, but had to put it up to her, and she ate it. Today she would not move much and has not drank for a week so I put a cap with water in it up to her mouth and she drank for about 30 sec. I know this is a long mess. but I want whoever to know exactly how she is kept to get the best advice, and tell me what I am doing wrong. I do not want my poor little baby to die, and it is painful to watch her like this. I am job hunting right now so a vet is out of the question. No $. Can somebody please tell me whats wrong?!?!?!?

I have a pueblan milk snake so I may be able to help you. If she is eating and drinking she should be fine for the time being untill you get a job. She is in shed, and when they are they normally are lethargic. When you get a job, if she is still sick you should take her to the vet. But I don't know too much about milk or king snakes so If some of they experts can help it would be great.

| Honesty, I don't think that there is anything wrong. What you are describing is typical shed-cycle behavior. When a snake is ready to shed, the will stop eating and curl up somewhere to wait it out. They may drink because shedding uses up moisture. She did not lift her head to you or grab the pink because she can't see very well while her eyes are milky. The best thing to do is leave her alone until after she sheds and that includes handling and feeding. I think you are getting carried away with the lighting, but I have to get going so I'll touch on that latter.

| Yeah snakes do not have external ears so they cannot hear the sounds we make so she was never responding to your voice, sorry to say. As ratsnake said this sounds like a pretty typical shed cycle, after she sheds all should be well again and as she grows she may even decide to just be normal whether in shed or not.... one of my kings snakes will always eat regardless, but the other one and the milk snake never eat on shed.

| Thank you guys for your advice. She shed today, but is still pretty lifeless. And now I have a couple more problems, she has retained her left brille and two inches of her old shed on the end of the tail... but I've been taught a trick for that. So THANK YOU all very much for your help. Hopefully she will get better in a week.?
