many members along with myself, believe that yesterdays reptile of the day has a photo that was not taken by that member and possibly has does not have that animal at all.

Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.

Hi everyone,

"Think" and "believe" are not good enough. We literally need the author or copyright holder to tell us that is their work and it must be removed. Otherwise this is all assumptions. You do not know that this isn't a profile created by the owner of the photo, or that permission was given to this person to use the photo.

We do appreciate your concern about ReptileChannel. There have been several conversations here in the wake of these type of messages.

We respect copyright laws. The ReptileChannel terms indicate that by uploading an image a person is stating that they have the right to post it. If a photo is posted by someone other than its owner, and the owner contacts us and proves ownership, the photo would be removed. Unless one owns the image, you would not know if the poster has permission to post it or not. Therefore, we abide by our terms and believe people have permission to post the photos they’re posting. These are the parameters in which our terms allow us to police copyrighted material while not bearing the responsibility to research every photo posted.

There is still the question regarding a profile that moves a number of people to complain, and how this could affect overall impressions of the website. Rest assured that discussions here are ongoing about possible approaches to such profiles.

Thanks again for your interest in the well-being of ReptileChannel.

R.M.
