This year I will begin my first breeding project, and I wanted some opinions from you all.  Now, I am looking at my programs from a few different angles:

1.            Fun (I want to really enjoy the experience to its fullest)
2.            Rewarding Experience
3.            Efficiency (Quantity vs. Rarity)
4.            Profit

Now I know I am not going to get rich from this endeavor.  That is not my goal.  However, I would love to at least break even after selling the offspring.

Now the 2 species I am considering for my program are the Ball Python (of some morph or another lol) and Suriname Boas (B.c.c.).  I have and still research the process for both species, and I am currently leaning toward the Boas.  I have heard they are more difficult to breed, which may increase the rewarding factor, and they give birth to live young, and FAR more than a Ball Python will lay eggs.  Also, I see the fact that any rare Ball Python morph will tend to be far more expensive than any Suriname Boa (excluding the rarer Boa morphs)   At an average of $100.00 per baby boa, and up to 80 (but an average of 30-40) young, they can  definitely bring in some money.  The hard part would be selling just so many lol.  Another advantage I can see is the fact that live birth will mean that I can avoid the trouble of incubators.  Given my reasoning, what do you all think?  In terms of my 4 categories, will the Suriname Boas or the Ball Pythons be better to breed?

if you can i would do both in my opinion better to have your fingers in many pies then rather just one but the boas may be more profitable in the end unless you make a decent sized investment in some sort of ball python morph but if you are beginning from babies balls would take 2 to 5 years to get up and running and probably even longer for boas [ i don't know since i don't deal with boas to much ] and the most difficult thing to do is to come up with the start up money and what some people do is they have a species that they breed to fund their main passion

I do agree. If I have the money I will certainly do so. I have 2 ball pythons that I need to have sexed. However, I do believe the 6 year old may be a female. I do not know how to sex them myself. A breeder at an expo once showed me but I'm afraid to try it myself for fear of hurting them. I am buying a a baby Suriname on March 28, but I do not plan on this snake to be a breeder. No, I am hoping to sell a couple guitars of mine soon to fund the real deal, but I want to get to know a young boa first. I have no extensive experience with any other species other than my balls, and thus I think that until october/november this year I should get some hands onn experience with the species before I jump the gun.

I certainly like the idea of doing both though

Oh man! You're getting some Panthers! That's awesome! Id love to get back into the lizard sxene, but given my remote location here in VA I cannot afford to go out and buy insects all the time lol. Mice and rats stay nice and frozen as long as I like though lol. So I buy in bulk. that's another thing I've been meaning to find out about too lol. When does it become beneficial to breed rats and mice to feed the snakes. I read a post of yours on the feeder forum I believe about the rat racks. Very nice design.

I agree lol. You're always there to lend my advice lol. And I have to say its been really good too! RG sounds like a great idea. Heck if we didn't live 3000 miles apart I'd even offer to meet in person. Haha. Your collection sounds impressive, Man! Love to see that

I sent ya a personal message about the guitars snakelover7.  But just in case my internet messed up, I wanted to let you know so you can check em out.  I posted a couple pics on the message as well so you can see them.  Words don't do them justce.  They are 2 Ibanez guitars.  1 is a 5-String Bass.  The other is a Ibanez Xiphos XPT700 6 string electric.
