I am thinking about adding an amphibian to my small group of reptiles ( a corn snake and leopard gecko) and I can't decide between the Fire-Bellied Newt of the Fire Salamander. I have researched both and put a lot of thought into it. I know the salamander would grow somewhat big and that the newts are smaller. If i get the newt I would get two and only one for the salamander. Can y'all help me out, give me your opinions, the pros and cons, and any other help. Thank you, Lizzy.

Ok, here is something you should definitely take into consideration: fire salamanders like it cool. Cool as in 70 degrees to them is like 110 to us. They are gorgeous and hardy, but the newts are easier to care for on the whole. They are cheaper also.

I'd go with fire bellied newts to. Just be sure to remember that there are two different species, japanese and chinese.

Thanks for the help, I been looking at the two different types of newts and think I'm going to go with the Chinese FBN.

I go with Cynops sp. because they are cheap, common, small, and less poisonous than Salamandra salamandra. The last statement doesn't meant that it is not poisonous. It can make you ill if you don't wash your hands.

2 Hydrosaurus pustulatus
4 Trachemys scripta elegans
1 Cynops orientalis
