Could you feed a red-eared slider on a staple diet of alfalfa?

| The protein content of alfalfa is pretty high; I would try to use someting lower in protein. Too much protein is hard on a turtles' kidneys.

kale and spinach are pretty healthy
you could boil it in water and make it soft and slimy if they are reluctant to eat it, if you go to Petsmart and ask someone near the aquatic plants they will know which plants are edible for turtles.
Sliders are omnivores so you could also feed them earthworms, raw fish, feeder fish...
If you look in the fish aisle they have freeze-dried brine shrimp, blood worms, tubiflex worms, and sometimes clams (my sliders looove these)
Variety is very important, in the wild turtles eat all different kinds of plants and animals
Try to feed them lots of different plant and animal foods and not strictly one or the other, even though alfalfa is high in protein in probably doesn't have as many amino acids as meat-based foods
I hope I was helpful

Isn't spinach bad for a turtle's health because it binds calcium.

yes, it renders the calcium unusable by the body, but in small amounts and not used often it can be eaten by turtles
