Kathy's baby normal and pastel baby balls are hatching here right now!  I've posted the pics taken minutes ago, and will try to drag her over here to comment on them....

Hi Everyone!

I have been away for a while because it is "that time of the year" when all of the babies are hatching and wanting to be fed! The corns have all been hatched for a while, and now the baby balls are coming out, at last! But now that hatching season is mostly finished, I should be around here a little more.

I didn't have an incubator set up for the eggs, so I left them with mom. BPs don't "shiver" like Burmese and some other pythons do to raise the temps. Seems that they keep the temps correct by going to a warmer spot, or cooler spot (such as the water bowl), and then coiling around the eggs to warm or cool them. It did take an extra couple of weeks of incubation (compared to what most breeders get with eggs in an incubator), but last year I did the same thing, and the babies were fine. Hopefully, they will work out great this year too.

This is only my 2nd ever clutch of BPs, and the first for this year. I have another very small clutch. Next year I should have quite a few adults, and should have even more fun. I think I will "fire up" the incubators though, instead of relying on the moms. They can get quite thin by going without food for so long.

Once these babies are completely hatched, I will get Bill to photo them all so I can post them. I am really hoping for some female pastels, since I want to keep all of them females to eventually replace my female normals.

You should totally make the 2nd a poster.

I live for what Steve Irwin stood for. If the world was full of people like him, it would be a better place.

yeah my ball python maybe eats 2 times in the winter & my parents seem to be starting to come around since they might let me have another red-tail & they've went from "NO we won't breed boas" to "i would have to put seriouse thought into it"

^ Way to go, I'm glad for you.

Yeah well I got to say I'm kinda jelous, even though RTBs arent the first thing I'd want, the rule of the house is "nothing longer then you are tall" which my dad quickly instated after I got my first BP. God how I wish I could have a retic, BRB, or a PeruvianBC ~ Rex
