| Hi, I'm a new member here... just joined not too long ago (about 10 mins time?). I'm much more of a fishkeeper hence my name but I also like a few select reptiles. I've seen Bearded Dragons at Petco and thought they were pretty cute. I was wondering, what are the exact requirements for them? I also have red ear slider turtles... but their shells are really bad looking. The markings on the bottom of the shell aren't really distinguished and the shell on top doesn't look green for about half of it. It's just silver. Eating and behavior habits aren't a concern. It eats like it always does and behaves as usual. I feed them TetraMin (if it's called that I forgot... too into fish keeping) baby turtle food sticks. Two times a day, about 3 pieces each feeding. Each turtle (I have two) eats 3 or so per feeding and live in a 10 gallon. We use reptile conditioner and the turtles are just babies, 3-4 inches. pH is 7.6 but I don't think this'll help... filter is the standard waterfall tetramin one that is green colored and uses a filter bag thingy... I'm really new to this and would like advice.

I can not help you with turtles. But I do know about beardies. Other choices you amy want to look at are leopard geckos, fat tailed geckos, and blue tongue skinks.
For a bearded dragon......
Housing: 40 gallon minimum. 75 is a good size for one or two. ( you can only house 2 females together, or one male and one female ( but they will breed.....a lot).
Substrate: The best in my opinion is tile. For babies; tile, newspaper, and paper towels. For Adults; all of the above and washed and baked play sand.
Diet: They are omnivores and will eat a diet of crickets, mealworms, superworms, collard greens, mustard greens, kale, and raw squash is good too. *I can give you more detailed listings if you want.*
Lighting: You will need a 100-150 heat lamp over one spot in the enclosure ( 2 for a bigger tank.) And you will also need a UVB bulb.
If you are still into getting a bearded dragon I can help you more.
1.0 bearded dragon (Drake)
1.0.1 leopard gecko (Athena and Apollo)
0.0.1 occelated skink (Zahara)
0.0.2 wood frogs (Cloak and Dagger)

| Eh? What are UVB lights? I just used the light the fish tank kit came with. I bought the tank originally for fish, transferred them over to a bigger tank and made this a turtle tank. I just use a 17 watt flourescent T8 light.

| Hey FattFishy. For the RES (red eared sliders): Housing: 30 gallons for two. Gravel is not needed. Use a turtle dock and about 10" of water. Internal filters are fine. Feeding: Turtle sticks are good, but you should also give them some vegetables (carrots, romaine lettuce, spinach, etc.) and meat (mealworms, wax worms, etc.). Turtles can only eat in water, so drop it in their water. Lights: A clamp lamp with a Turtle Tuff Halogen Light is good. Aim the light over the basking spot. For the bearded dragon: 20 gallon Long when they are babies, 40 gallon Breeder when adult. Use Reptile Carpet for substrate (flooring). Have a hiding spot (cave, half log, etc.) Use driftwood and plants for climbing and thermoregulating (changing body temperature). Have a 75 watt desert sun bulb on side opposite of food and water dishes. You can feed bearded dragon pellets with mealworms, crickets, wax worms, Pheonix worms, and vegetables. Have a large water dish to soak in. Good luck with the RES and maybe the beardie.

| I thought fish were harder to keep.... Ok, good thing I asked about the beardies before I got them... requirements are hard... About the turtle, both of them have the metallic bone disease... I do have a basking spot. I can't prevent it... so they're gonna die? How much time do we have left?
