About the turtle, both of them have the metallic bone disease... I do have a basking spot. I can't prevent it... so they're gonna die? How much time do we have left?

take them to a vet you may be in time to cure them yes it will cost $$$ but,mbd is 100% preventable(uvb light +varied diet+supplements)& i see you haven't done any research because in all carsheets & books it says to use uvb too make a long story short its your falt you should have taken responsibility before you got them & researched on how to care for them

I DONT TAKE CARE OF THEM. I WASN'T THE ONE WHO BOUGHT THEM.

I just have them and was wondering why it looks like that. So how much time do they have? It's been there since a month or so... I'll try to get a new light...

Snake Charmer, you sure know how to make a person feel bad.

It's my sister's.... and she didn't do any research whatsoever.

On the shell, the little "plate" looking things are half silver and half light green each. The outer rim is more silver than the inside. Behavior is normal and feeding is more diverse now... been going on for 1 1/2 months actually. If nothing is changed (don't worry, I'll make my sister buy the light and a bigger tank) about how long does the turtle have left? They're only babies, 5 inches or so.

They are very skittish. There is a background but everytime I or someone else goes upstairs, the turtles plop right into the water... at least it was until after 2 weeks of purchase. Then they would sort of wait, move a little slowly, then plop into the water slower. They are sort of active though... not too much.

Wow, snake charmer you are being really harsh. The forum is here to educate people. I really do agree in researching any animal before you buy it but the fact of the matter is that they already have the res.

A great website for res is www.austinsturtlepage.com they have a lot of information on there. I recommend it to all the people who are looking to buy a turtle. There is also a turtle forum on here to look into as well. I would suggest buying a book as well because where the web is great, a book to quick reference is better. Please get a uvb bulb like everyone is saying. Right now you can take it outside daily to get natural sunlight and they can get uvb/uva from the sun. With a uvb bulb you will have to replace it every 6 months even though there is light coming from the bulb. For their diet the pellets are good but you can feed them fish, meal worms, earthworms and crickets. You can try offering them greens but the probably won't eat it until they are older. Feed only in the water. RES also can live up to 20 years and get to about 12". A 10 gallon with a basking spot will be okay now but you will have to up grade to a much larger tank before long a 40 breeder tank min. a 75 is a much better choice. Also always have a filter that will filter at least 2x the water for better filtration. I would go with a canister filter. You might need a heater and they have heaters that are just for turtles. To condition the shell they have a product made by Tetra.

If you are looking for a beginner lizard check into a leopard gecko. The set-up is much cheaper then a bearded dragon. I love our dragon but we did start with leopard geckos years ago. One gecko can live in a 10 gallon but a 20 gallon long is much better. Under tank heater, two hides, cage carpet for babies or paper towels, two temperature gages and a humidity gage, possible a light at night if it gets too cool. They have a nice set up that is about $99.00-$129.00 that you can get at Petco or even Petsmart that is pretty good setup.

But no matter what reptile you decide to get research, educate, have fun.

Bearded Dragon
5 Viper Geckos
Sinaloan Milksnake
82 Tarantulas and counting
Albino Pacman Frog
4 Birds
dwarf hamster
Male Betta
Baby red devil/Midas cichlids
7 gallon nano reef tank
125 gallon freshwater tank.

it sounds like they don't have mbd & like already said some natural sunlight is always good since there aquatic put a kitty pool under atree half of it in the shade & half out so they can choose there prefered temp
