I saw a lizard on my padio sunning and he was a weird looking one.He looked like a brown anole but,had a red tail.He had normal sized eyes but,the pupils were like those of a house gecko.I tried to catch it to get a picture of it but,he ran away and I don't know where he is.Any ideas on what kind of lizard this is?

Well, we'll need a better description than that in order to make a good guess. But, for starters, where are you from?

| Green anolie is from florida. And knowing floridas invasive herp problem, i would not be suprised if it turned out to be a forun species. Ok, lets go over what we know about the thing. It is fast, it is not afraid of humans enough to use a padio as a basking rock,it has a red tail, it look s like a anolie, and it has features of a couple of diffrent forun species. So these are the questions that we need to ask, How long was it, what was the body shape, what habitat did it run into, and did it have the trade mark duelap of the anolie family. Green anolie needs to answer these questions. This will help us through prosses of elimination.

the herptile master (9/13/2008) Green anolie is from florida. And knowing floridas invasive herp problem, i would not be suprised if it turned out to be a forun species.Ok, lets go over what we know about the thing. It is fast, it is not afraid of humans enough to use a padio as a basking rock,it has a red tail, it look s like a anolie, and it has features of a couple of diffrent forun species. So these are the questions that we need to ask, How long was it, 2 and a half inches long not counting the tail.Tail was 1 inch long. what was the body shape, It had the body shape that looked sort of like a brown anole but, more flatish.Like a Gecko combined with a Brown anole. It has a House Gecko head. what habitat did it run into, Uh......it ran off of the metal bar that was near a "mini tree",down the "cage"to prevent gators and snakes from coming in,onto this long string of rocks in a pit and out this gap in the in the tunnel leading outside where it presumitabley got in. and did it have the trade mark duelap of the anolie family. No.I didn't get to really examine it but,it had the head of a House Gecko not a Brown Anole so I don't think so. Green anolie needs to answer these questions. This will help us through prosses of elimination. I think it is a hybrid herp but,I won't be surprissed if it's not.

Well, geckos and anolies cant breed. It could have been a mishapen mutint. Or i could have been a non-natie herp that breed with a local lizard. It is hard to say without a pic.
