| The turtles in your VERY LARGE PICS look like northern map turtles, Graptemys geographica. What river were they photographed in? What state were you in? Can you tell us anything else about the experience, like how close were you when the pics were taken?; map turtles are pretty skittish and seldom let you approach very closely. Your shot of the big female (with the thick head) is quite good considering you were probably far away. We appreciate your post, and would urge you to submit more. Adding some details to your post will give viewers something else to comment about besides 'Nice pics'. Here's a close-up (from captivity) of what I think the large turtle in your pics is...

| i dont know what river it was i will try to see iif i can find out but we were not very far away we were at the waters edge but my moms camera can barely zoom in. And i live in michigan p.s. next time i will crop the pics a little bit
