We just bought a blood python at a reptile show and while she was being very active and curious at the show, now that she's home, she's not moving at all o.O
She seems to be very sweet and hasn't tried to bite us yet. She doesn't even mind her head being touched! She's got mites, from what I can tell, but she is otherwise healthy. She's an '08 baby. Very beautiful. I'm just hoping she's not being lethargic for a certain reason ....

I imagine that she was perplexed at the show what with the bright lights and the multitude of vibrations, but now that you have her home and it's calmer, she may be resting or just calmer. But, like always, if you suspect that there is something wrong with your snake, take it to get checked up.
I live for what Steve Irwin stood for. If the world was full of people like him, it would be a better place.

| Yeah ... Maybe .... I'll try giving her a few days to settle in and if she's still lethargic, she's going to the vet.

| Bloods aren't extremely active anyway. Don't expect it to always be crawling around. The reason it was like this at the show was because all of the commotion of being in a little plastic box where people were poking at all day was making it get excited. Majority of the time they will just lay there or hide. If it won't eat after a few feeds and is still lethargic, take it to the vet.

Mk ... Good to know ... Cause she was sitting on my boyfriend's chest and he had her covered up like a baby and she refused to move for anything .... Any other snake would have dodged under the covers and tried for a getaway. =/
So we were worried. She's ready to eat anyways ... We'll try to feed her soon and see if she eats ... They're supposed to be very very good eaters o.O Better than boas even ... So she should eat right?

| It should be fine. It might even be the personality of the snake. If it doesn't mind being touched on the head then it is pretty placid. I bet it will take that mouse or rat in no time! Make sure you give her a bath for those mites. You should buy might removing liquid as well. By the way, it should crawl around sometimes, just not all the time... Especially during the day.

I got Sevin dust ... That's what the breeder told me to use on her for mites after I told him she had them. Sevin is the only bug killer safe enough to use around food, so I'm guessing it's safe for her?
She's not the only snake I've got with mites, though ... My baby boa has had them since November. They seem to be immune to Reptile Relief and that's the only mite spray available to me where I am =/ So I think I'm going to try the Sevin? It's a 5% concentration ... What do you think? Has anyone ever used it? The breeder said that he just sprinkles it in the cage, leaves it there for three days and voila, the mites are gone o.O I'm just a little skeptical cause I don't wanna risk my babies D: But if it works, I won't hesitate to use it.

| Well I've never had a reptile with mites, so to be honest I don't really know. With my limited experience on the subject, I'd say its okay. Look up other ways just to be safe. If the breeder that recommended it is reputable, you should be fine. I hope all runs beautifully for you!

| With regards to mites. I have found FrontLine (tick & flea treatment for dogs & cats) very good. I spray a small amount onto a cloth and gently wipe down the snake, all the way from the head to the tail. You can see the mites come out and start to die straight away. If the infestation is really bad, I give the snake a bath and soak first. I repeat the Frontline treatment after 7 days. Voila - no more mites! I have nearly 50 snakes of various breeds and have never had an adverse reaction.
