one day I was out side and saw a nice large rope on the ground. leaning over to pick it up, it moves. a copperhead 2 inches from my hand.
and that is it!

That's funny.
For me, it is usually the complete opposite. I see a snake and I get all excited, then I realize that it's only a stick! EVERYTHING looks like a snake to me!

I wish that all sticks and ropes were snakes… Snakes are more interesting too.
One time I was on my front porch kneeling down to admire some lovely logs I planned to use for my herps and I happened to look to the side and realize there was a copperhead sitting right next to me -- just staring at me. Maybe it wanted my logs.
I like copperheads…if they weren't venomous I'd keep one!

Hmmm…good point. Perhaps that it is a good thing that sticks aren't snakes. I suppose for some people, snakes are nothing more than just sticks, and they even go out of their way to kill the poor things.
