Hello,I am new on tarantulas,spider and scorpions and I am looking into buying to things.I want an Thai Red Leg Trapdoor Spider and a Mozambique hissing Scorpion.I was wondering if anyone has any information on these guys.

| Trap door spiders and most scorpions are not good invertabrates for someone who is not used to working with invertabrates already. They have stronger, more potent venoms that could actually be a danger. Some better beginner arachnids are rose hair tarantulas (Gramasoleta rosea), Mexican red-knee tarantulas (Brachypelma smithii), Costa Rican zebra tarantulas (Anphonpelma seemani), pink toe tarantulas (Avicularia avicularia), and emperor scorpions (Pandinus imperator). If you don't mind roaches, Madagascar hissing cockroaches (Gramphradorhina portentosa)are absolutely amazing! They are really cheap and easy to keep, plus very docile and great for handling.

Well thanks.I am not used to or into handling them unless I really need to though.Just something different to learn about.Plus I think they are all fun to watch.I well keep all those in mind though and thanks again.

The list that Roho has is a great one. I love our Mexican red-knee tarantulas (Brachypelma smithi), I really like their coloring but I have to say that I think that the Honduran curly hair (Brachypelma albopilosa)makes a better first tarantula. They aren't as colorful but at the same time don't kick hairs as much and are generally a more docile tarantula. They are also a little better price. The Costa Rican zebra tarantulas (Anphonpelma seemani), I have two and one is psycho and will bite you if given the chance and the other one is very flighty.
I agree with Roho that maybe those are not the best inverts to start out with. Especially with the trap door. We don't have the Thai Red Leg Trapdoor Spider (Latouchia batuensis) , but we have a Ctenolophus sp. (red trapdoor), it is something you'll never see. We have had it for about 6 months and to be honest I have only seen it eat twice, that's it. It eats but never when you are watching. Depending on the species if you are bitten it can be medically significant. With that said, their care is fairly simple height obviously is more important then length. Ours is in a 1/2 gallon jar filled with substrate, it needs to be fairly moist. You can try and starting a hole for it near the edge, it may take it and burrow down along the edge so you can see it. Ours made it's own tunnel, and you are unable to see it. I can see where the door is it but nothing else. Mine only eats one cricket every other week, even if you put a cricket in there every week it won't eat it. Basically I look at a jar full of coco fiber. As far as the scorpion I think that the scientific name is Opistophthalmus glabrifrons, I don't know much about this species but here is a site that has a little information on it http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/o_glabrifrons.php You can get additional information on http://www.arachnoboards.com for either invert. I personally would recommend the emperor scorpion (Pandinus imperator). We have two set up in a 10 gallon terrarium with live plants and I really love it and so do they. I think if you look at some of my past post you will be able to see their setup. Their venom isn't as potent as some other sporpions.
