HR2811 if passed would Ban ALL Pythons Nationwide. Please Pass this on and call monday 7/27/09Share
Today at 7:52pm
There seems to be some confusion in the Reptile Nation about what is going on here. HR2811 if passed would Ban ALL Pythons Nationwide. This is NOT a Florida bill. It is in the US House of Representatives. This is NOT about Burmese Pythons. IT IS ABOUT ALL PYTHONS!... from Ball Pythons on up... ALL PYTHONS!!! If HR2811 passes the House and Senate as written, the trade in ALL PYTHONS IS OVER!!

Our only chance is to get the bill amended. It is going to get voted on in subcommittee on Tuesday and the full House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. If we are unable to get it amended it will include ALL PYTHONS!

USARK is calling on the entire Reptile nation to turn out for a MASSIVE calling day tomorrow, Monday July 27, 2009!!! If we fail, the ability to work with ANY Python will be devastated. Don't let this happen. We owe it to our children and future generations to be able to enjoy these animals! This is the most fantastic hobby and profession there is. DO NOT LET IT DIE!

Phone & Fax Campaign July 27, 2009: This is not a full list of the House Judiciary Committee. We will focus only on key members.

SCRIPT: My name is...... I want to register a NO on HR2811. If passed as written this bill will destroy thousands of families and small businesses. There is not a shred of scientific evidence to support banning all of the different species in the genus python. Not all pythons are the same. There are many different species. Please amend the bill to address only the IMPORT of the Burmese Python. Thank you for your consideration.

As i said beofre, we need to step up our game. When i say this i am saying that just becouse one ban went away, that dose not mean that another equally crippling ban can be propossed. This is sick and stupid. The fact of the matter is that they look at all the bad point about herps. And why not ban dogs??? 26 people die from dog attacks every year and4.5 millionm are injerd. 800,000 need reconstructive surgery, sevrle dozen stitches and other medical treatments. and yet these people have not even thought about banning dogs. But when some kid provokes a snake into biteing her then they need ti be banned, killed, and skinned.

You know i was watching the news one day and i saw this polotition saying that they are going to skin the pythons when they are caought. The the interveiwer said thats all snakes are good for.

I have always said our most powerful tool is information and education. We need to get more people on our side. Becouse parents are being unnessesayly scared, they are passing that fear of all things herp onto them, and even the news people are on the opposing team.

I live by Xtreme rules.

Ha, what can i say, some people have drugs, i have herps.

At the end of the day we are all we've got. We ride together, we die together herp brothers for life.

HR 2811 is the companion bill to S373, the article here on HR 2811 links to another article on S 373:

Nobody was doubting that another one would show up. There just isn't a whole lot to do about it when there isn't something to fight against at the time.

About the hunting of caught pythons, I'm all for it. Its a safe way to get rid of them, as they are a major threat to the ecosystem. It takes away a crutch for these bills to lean on. All you would need to do is put a bounty on them, like $50 a head or something. That way, your helping the economy too!

If you have a better solution, I would be interested to hear it.

We have the updated news release at the link below. It passed the subcommittee section today and will go to full committee tomorrow. It may be amended to only include a couple of python genera, but the implications of this bill are far-reaching. Please post the link below on any social networking sites and forums you frequent:

Its actually the same bill, but is limited to Burms and African Rocks. You should be happy at this. It will probably end up only stopping imported snakes (Burmese and African Rock pythons). Its still got a ways to go before it becomes a law anyway.

should be happy if your not a burm or afrock breeder.... This is a big win for USARK but a lot of big snake keepers feel they were thrown under the bus, they think this will still be an end to their hobby because they have no new blood or morphs coming in so eventually all burms and afrocks will end up being inbred.
