There are tons of Burmese pythons in the U.S. Besides, most people are NOT capable of properly keeping one anyway. The numbers need to be reduced or greedy breeders will keep selling them to moron kids and even adults.

Quite frankly, Burm breeders needed to be thrown under the bus. They are the problem in the first place. Many people breed too many of them in one season and end up producing thousands of babies, to sell to who ever will buy, which is typically people who shouldn't.

And how many burm breeders do you know? Because the ones I know will not sell to anyone who doesn't know what they are doing and can't care for it properly. It's the whole salers who supply pet stores that are causing the problem, people who don't care for the snakes at all anyways. That goes for iguana, boa, and leopard gecko farmers as well. Burm whole salers are not the only irresponsible breeders out there and -aside from leopard geckos- none of those species mentioned should be carried in pet stores and available to the general ignorant public.
Why don't we blame the pet stores that carry them? It's just as much their fault for providing the animal and in a lot of cases selling them to minors. The blame is not all in the breeders and REAL breeders have done nothing to deserve that.

I'm not talking about the small breeders who truly have an interest in the species. I'm talking about the big business breeders (no names) who produce way more than they should. Granted, burms have massive clutches at once, but they still breed the animals way more than they should.

The problem with your argument about burm breeders are not the only irresponsible breeders out there is irrelevant. Its like comparing an irresponsible (or illegal) gun dealer to an irresponsible candy store owner. Burms can kill, leos can not...

My solution to the big snake problem,

My brother's friend is a falconer. For those of you who don't know what that is, its where a hunter uses an either wild caught or captive breed raptor (bird of prey) to hunt. He lets it loose, it catches a rabbit or squirrel or something, and then brings it back to the human who trades it for an already cleaned piece of meat.

But anyway, it takes a LONG time to become a falconer. First, you have to take a written exam, to see if your qualified. Then, you have to be a more experienced falconer's apprentice for two years before you can have your own bird by yourself. After that, you can only keep certain species (ex. red tailed hawk). After a length of time, you can move on to more rare species, (ex. peregrine falcon).

These rules are to protect the species. If you do something similar to the Big 5 and hots, then the number of pet snake related deaths will plummet down because no more idiots who want a "cool" snake will care enough to go through several years of training. Then the "big business breeders" will stop producing as many because the demand is not as, well, demanding.

This could be controlled by the government (preferably state government with each state varying a bit), but it would be safer for the reptile community to make an organization, with registered breeders, vendors, and animals. If a breeder/vendor is not registered, they didn't meet the standards and are not going to get any business. If you aren't willing to go through the pains to get the animal, you can't get it.

A similar rule is already in place for hots in Florida and with the ROC permit now a lot of people wont bother to go through and pay the fees and when they do they are forced to research and realize the snake gets 20+ ft.
and deaths from snakes are not nearly as common as you think apparently
There have been only 12 deaths from pythons in the last 20 years. more people are injured by "tame" pet dogs and captive deer than they are by any reptile.

I am aware that their are very few deaths from pythons. The fact of the matter is they CAN kill people. It is a huge difference when a dog kills a child and when a snake kills a child, to the media at least. You are forgetting that we are the "weirdos" here. Snakes are gross, dangerous, and shouldn't be kept as pets anyway; Dogs are cute, cuddly, and love people. You can tell people like dogs more when they say things like "well it was the master's fault for training him that way" after a pit bull mauls a toddler. When a Burm kills a toddler, they say things like "it shouldn't have been a pet in the first place".

Moral of the story, people hate snakes and we have to take away one of the reasons they hate them if we want to go anywhere with this hobby.

Central Park horror leaves Google engineer Blair-Goldensohn in coma

A Google genius was in a coma Wednesday night after a rotting branch snapped off a tree in Central Park and smashed him in the head.

Doctors performed a procedure to relieve swelling and put him on a ventilator to help him breathe because his lung was damaged by the branch.

"You take your chances no matter where you go in the park," said John May, 48, a computer analyst. "You can't live under a rock - everywhere in the park there is a tree!"

NOOOOO
